About Cody

Cody is an adoptable male Chocolate Labrador Retriever looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is fully grown and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to other. Adopting Cody, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Intake Info: Cody A2135374 is a very handsome boy, who sadly was owner surrendered to us and has been in our care since May 2026. Medical: Cody appears to be approximately 6 years old. He is fully processed, heartworm negative, and has moderate dental tartar. He was previously treated for kennel cough. Staff Notes: Cody was returned from foster due to increasing behavioral concerns. The foster reported that Cody has become mouthy and nipped at two visitors on their fingers/knuckles when they extended their hands toward him in the doorway to allow him to sniff them. The foster also reported possible anxiety, including crying and scratching at the door when left alone. She suspects his behavior may be fear-based but is unsure. Behavior Notes: Cody knows basic commands, including sit, down, and paw. During an assessment, he responded to verbal direction, remained seated while being leashed, and was attentive when treats were offered. He responded to a verbal correction and leash guidance when attempting to chase a lizard. Treats were needed to coax him back into his kennel. The behaviors reported in his foster home were not replicated during this assessment. Cody has been in playgroups, but observed to hump other dogs, sometimes persisting despite their corrections. Volunteer Notes: Cody sat before the volunteer entered his kennel, allowed himself to be leashed, and walked to the yard without pulling. He showed interest in chasing the water hose during turf cleaning and barked at workers walking behind the fence but was redirected away from the area. He returned to his kennel easily and did not react to dogs barking at him. Request to Rescues: Cody is experiencing escalating behavioral concerns, including barrier frustration, leash reactivity, and mouthiness. His behavior has become increasingly difficult to manage in the shelter environment, and he exceeds our current capacity for care. Cody needs rescue that can provide him with behavior modification, continued training, and careful management of visitor interactions and dog introductions Animal ID\tA2135374 Color\tBrown Sex\tNeutered Male Size\tLarge Weight\t59 lbs.
