About Meatloaf

Meatloaf is an adoptable male American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is a young adult and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 7 days left, listed due to other. Adopting Meatloaf, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Intake Info: Meatloaf is a handsome 2-year-old, neutered male who came to ACC at the start of August this year. He was found tied up in someone's front yad and they brought him to us. He was adopted after just a couple of weeks but was returned after a month. The adopters said their apartment complex said he was too big and other residents complained about him being too big. The adopter said that Meatloaf was amazing in the home ' he's potty trained, played well his other dogs and didn't mess up the house at all. Medical: Healthy boy, up to date on vaccines. Heartworm negative. Behaviors Observed: Meatloaf is an active, fun-loving boy who absolutely loves fetch! He is a professional ball player who reliably brings the ball back, drops it, and steps back for another throw. He knows how to sit for treats, responds to cues, enjoys being petted, and has demonstrated impressive skills and training. He is also very housebroken and benefits from having an opportunity to relieve himself before interactions or activities. Meatloaf can enjoy appropriate play with another dog under the right circumstances, as demonstrated during a successful session with Destiel. However, multiple assessments have shown that he struggles with dog-to-dog communication when uncomfortable. He may display warning signs such as lip licking, whale eye, and raised hackles, followed by escalating corrections or attempts to continue an altercation. Although his responsiveness to handler intervention has improved, his reactions have been inconsistent, and he has not yet demonstrated reliable, appropriate interactions with other dogs. Request to Rescues: We're looking for a rescue partner who can help Meatloaf find the loving, stable home he deserves. After being abandoned and subsequently returned from adoption, this boy is ready for a fresh start with someone who will give him the chance to settle in and thrive. Meatloaf is a fetch enthusiast who would love an active home where he can enjoy plenty of playtime, exercise, and quality time with his human. He is not eligible for shelter playgroups and is recommended for an only-dog household. With continued training, clear and consistent guidance, and a safe, loving environment, Meatloaf can leave his difficult past behind and finally find his forever home.
