About Magenta

Magenta is an adoptable female American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Magenta, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Magenta ACCT-A-261968 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Magenta must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18TH at 10AM. Should Magenta's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Magenta, a sweet girl with a soft heart who is learning that the world isn't such a scary place after all! When she first arrived at the shelter, Magenta was very nervous and unsure of what to expect. She can be hesitant when approached with a leash or when faced with unfamiliar handling, but with patience, gentle encouragement, and a little something tasty, she has been making wonderful progress. Once she feels more comfortable, her affectionate side starts to shine. She loves treats, knows how to sit, and has recently been spotted playfully following her people around the yard, offering play bows, and rubbing against their legs for affection! Magenta is a medium-energy girl who enjoys exploring the yard and spending time with people at her own pace. She is highly food-motivated, takes treats gently, and responds well to positive reinforcement. While she initially needed extra patience to get comfortable with leashing, recent outings have been much easier, and she has shown that she can relax and enjoy her time outside. She may be a little jumpy when excited, but she can be redirected with treats and gentle guidance. Magenta isn't particularly interested in toys, preferring to focus on her favorite snacks and the people offering them! Magenta has shown some positive and neutral interactions with other dogs, including a good greeting through a fence. She can become excited around other dogs, so thoughtful introductions and continued guidance will help set her up for success. She has also been able to calmly investigate unfamiliar animals and be redirected when needed. As with any dog, slow introductions and proper management will be important as her needs and preferences continue to become clearer. Magenta is looking for an adult-only home with a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to let her settle in at her own pace. She's come a long way from the frightened girl who first arrived, and her growing confidence is lovely to see. In the right environment, you may discover a treat-loving, affectionate companion who just wants to feel safe, enjoy the simple things, and be close to her favorite people. If you're ready to help Magenta continue blossoming, she would love to meet you! She didn't want to play with any stuffed toys I showed her or any balls I threw; her main focus is to find food. This skinny, beautiful girl came to the shelter underfed and is very food motivated. She was very well-mannered, considering she could have been jumping around for my treats, but she wasn't. I decided to try to combine interests. I found a tennis ball that had a large hole in it. I put some fresh pet food in it and tossed it. She did a great job of chasing it and eating all the food. She's a very gentle girl, and I just hope she doesn't get overlooked because of the fearful waiver. It's hard for some dogs to be brave in a noisy shelter, but she has improved greatly since when she first arrived.\" Per staff 9/30: Came to the front of her kennel with mid level tail wags, ears back, soft eyes, loose body.
