This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. This pet is available only through ACC New Hope partners. To adopt or foster, please complete the pre-screener form below. Inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response. Pre-Screener Form Fenty is at risk for behavior concerns. She displays on-leash reactivity, fearfulness, and hypervigilance that make it difficult for her to acclimate to a shelter setting. Fenty is significantly on-leash reactive and has been observed barking, howling, yelping, jumping, thrashing, leash biting, and alligator rolling when seeing unfamiliar dogs and people. She is fearful and hypervigilant when exiting the kennel rooms, walking through the hallways, and when in the behavior office and will vocalize, whine, and pace when hearing other dogs. During her medical exam, Fenty is described as showing signs of hyperarousal- pulling, environmental vigilance- as well as being mildly skittish. Fenty has displayed social behaviors with select staff members and will solicit petting with a loose frame. Her previous owners describe her as sweet and affectionate. Medically, Fenty is diagnosed with CIRDC. Fenty was surrendered to care by her previous owner due to housing concerns. Fenty's previous family described her as a social, affectionate, active, playful, and vocal dog. She would spend most of her time in the bedroom and the backyard. She allowed her previous family to bathe and brush her, but did not allow them to trim her nails. Her owner did note that she can be shy with strangers when initially meeting them. But they also reported that has never done well with being walked on a leash; she had access to a backyard instead. Fenty has a history of being reactive to strangers, other dogs, and animals during walks. Similar behaviors were displayed during her intake and stay in care. Due to these concerns, we recommend that Fenty be placed with a New Hope partner that can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
