Memo 10/14/2026 10/14/26 14:06 Canine experiences high levels of stress with handling and movement throughout the shelter. Needs placement with a New Hope partner by close of business 10/19/26 to allow for behavioral assessment and support in a different environment. May be at risk for euthanasia 10/20/26 or sooner if warranted. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 10/14/2026 Moved Ziggy from outside of kennel to inside. He avoided the leash, after multiple attempts and allowing him to sniff at leash he allowed me to put it over his head. Moderately easy to walk. He stopped a few times, but was very easily coaxed along. Sweet talking went a long way. Easy to walk inside of building and allowed me to remove the leash without any signs of stress. 10/10/2026 Closed outside for AM cleaning. Dog was lying at front of kennel, calm, stoic, ignored hot dogs placed nearby, no reaction as handler spoke to dog. Started to retreat as handler opened kennel door, handler kneeled down, dog came forward with verbal coaxing, avoidant when trying to place leash, defecated, returned to handler when coaxed, after a few attempts able to slowly place leash. Dog quickly exited kennel, began pulling away from handler, flailing, defecated again, handler positioned taxi, dog entered without assistance, restless on the way to yard, attempted to exit taxi multiple times, defecated in taxi. Once in yard dog slowly exited taxi and explored yard, nose to ground, neutral body, panting, ate treats tossed around yard, slowly approached handler and took treats from hand, flinched and backed away slightly when attempting to pet but remained close to handler, tossed more treats, dog stood in front of handler, slowly reached down and lightly pet dog's head, dog lowered head and froze, side eyed as handler pet dog's body, handler offered more treats. Dog followed handler to catch pen, handler tossed treats in taxi, dog entered halfway, as handler picked up leash dog pulled away and began flailing, handler moved taxi closer, dog settled and entered taxi, no issues on the way back, hesitant to enter kennel, dog attempted to retreat further back into taxi, ignored treats tossed in kennel, handler was able to guide dog in with light leash pressure and gently nudging dog from behind, once returned allowed handler to remove leash by hand. 10/10/2026 Dog did not eat previous days food qwith kibble and canned will add in treats to 2nd fed today to entyce eating. 10/8/2026 On outer portion, standing at front of kennel; panting; whale eyed; offered treats; sniffed; did not eat; remained at front; slowly opened kennel door; dog approached door opening; able to place large loop over; placed behavior taxi right at opening; slowly opened kennel door allowing only enough space for dog to exit; taxi right at opening; dog entered behavior taxi with no issue; rode in taxi; tried jumping out; used light leash pressure to keep dog in taxi; panting. Picked leash up; dog would not follow; dropped leash; handler walked over to catch pen; dog followed; adjusted behavior taxi; dog circled around taxi; handler adjusted taxi against fence blocking passage for dog; dog continued to circle; walked right into behavior taxi; slowly pet; added clip leash; lip licking; rode well; tried climbing out; used light leash pressure; exited taxi; entered kennel; removed leash with clip leash. 10/8/2026 Dog did not eat previous day. Presented leash, dog would retreat to inside half of kennel while low growling. As handler approached front half of kennel, dog would be standing in back half of kennel again, closed divider. Offered treats through gate, dog would stand near divider wall while being whale eyed & licking lips. Leaned into kennel with a large loop leash to drape over dog, dog would slowly exit out of kennel & past behavior taxi. Once out of kennel, dog would start to alligator roll while biting @ leash. Handler would continue to speak calmly to dog while dog would briefly settle. Dog would start to pull back then alligator roll while biting @ leash & urinating. Started to pull back & thrash body while hitting white divider panel & behavior taxi. Handler would wait for dog to settle then able to guide dog back into kennel.
