Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 10/20/2026 Updating color due to NHO status. 10/19/2026 Outside for AM cleaning laying in corner of kennel with ears alert, stoic, came forward as handler offered treats and accepted treats gently thru kennel door. Asked \"wanna go for a walk\" and dog perked ears up, soft tail wag, allowed for easy leash placement at front of kennel. Exited kennel with strong pull, startled by reactive dogs in passing, tail tucked, no issues walking to small play yard. Once in yard dog accepted pets while placing leash stopper, began pacing around yard with some loose tail and tense body, would soften and approach handler for treats, mouthy with treats, knows \"SIT\", began leaning into pets with soft tail wag and soft body. Would follow handler around yard with softer body, wary of surroundings and easily startled otherwise soliciting attentions with handler when not pacing near play yard exit. Came to handler when called over to leave, accepted pets while recovering leash. No issues on return, walked into kennel on own and allowed handler to remove leash by hand. 10/18/2026 Dog was closed to back half of kennel, tense body, eyes darting, tail tucked. Handler spoke softly, called dog by name. Dog sniffed offered treats, did not take. Ears perked when handler asked \"want to go for a walk?\" Handler opened gate, dog came forward, tail tucked. Handler placed leash, dog briefly shook head out of it, then settled, allowed leash placement. Exited quickly, walked with strong pull, nervous, tense. Stopped to defecate near lobby area. Needed some coaxing to pass barking dogs but no issues directing to main yard. Handler was able to slowly adjust leash stopper. Applied extended line, dropped leash. Dog explored with tail down. Handlers called dog by name, dog approached, began warming up, tail no longer tucked. Allowed handlers to begin petting. Accepted treats from open palm. Dog began wagging tail, soft open mouth. Leaned in for petting. Chased stuffed toy when thrown. Dog would run up to handlers, wagging tail, seeking attention. Handler removed extended line. Dog appeared interested in people passing outside of yard, watched intently, approached fence. Returned to handlers when called. Body language was much more relaxed, dog continued to allow all petting and lean in for more. Allowed handler to retrieve leash, apply precautionary clip lead. Dog walked back to kennel with strong pull but more confidence. No reaction to barking dogs. Entered kennel easily. Leash loosened via clip lead, then removed by hand. 10/18/2026 Moved to new kennel. Easy to leash, nervous, strong pull but no issues directing. Passed barking dogs in new kennel building, no attempts to approach or engage. Followed handler into new kennel, remained in place as handler stepped out, leash loosened via clip lead then removed fully by hand. 10/18/2026 Dog did not eat dry kibble offered previous day.
