The rostral portion of the mandible sits at approximately a 30 degree downward angle in relation to the caudal portion. The ends of the bones are covered in granulation and gingival tissue There is also a triangular dermatological defect on the lateral aspect of the left forelimb just proximal to the elbow. Extensive scarring is present around the defect suggesting that a much larger wound existed at one time. Radiographic interpretation: Fractures of the body of the mandible bilaterally with extensive callus formation. Consistent with palpation, the rostral mandible has started to fuse in a downward angle. The callus has caused narrowing of the rostral portion of the oral cavity but is not impeding the tongue. The dog is in need of extensive surgery to attempt to repair this. Will need follow up with a specialist for this. Placing dog on portal, urgent medical NHO.
