A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' She required a go-slow approach when being collared by the runner in the catch pen and she pancaked to the ground. She entered the play yard with soft body language. She bypassed the other dogs and began to roam the yard to explore. She was tolerant of dogs trailing her to sniff her. She tolerated dogs approaching her and sniffing her, but she did not return the greetings. After a short time, she went and laid down by the fence, in the back corner of the yard. She continued to tolerate dogs approaching her and sniffing her, as she lay there. She remained in this spot and tolerant for the rest of her time in the yard. There were dogs playing during her time in the yard, but she did not engage in or entice any play. Trixie is tolerant of the other dogs and displayed no play style at this time. When it was time to leave the yard, she was very wary of the handlers approaching her and constantly created space from them. She appears under socialized around people and needs a very go-slow approach. Due to these factors, she would do best in an adult only home. She will also need socialization to walking on leash.
