Boomer
Pit Bull Terrier (mix breed)
Urgent: 2 Days Left
Scheduled: October 31, 2026
Reason: Lack of Space
Boomer is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Boomer, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Boomer ACCT-A-236759 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Boomer must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31ST at 10AM. Should Boomer's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Boomer is a sweet, approximately 1-and-a-half-year-old boy who came to ACCT Philly as a stray on October 3rd. This isn't his first time with us. Boomer stayed at ACCT as a puppy last fall before being adopted, and staff from that stay remember a bouncy, playful pup who loved climbing into laps, even falling asleep there and snoring loudly! Volunteers describe him as a very goofy and funny boy with lots of energy who loves to get the zoomies and is a great runner. He knows sit and down, takes direction well, and is very food motivated. Boomer can be mouthy when he's scared and isn't a fan of restraint, so he does best with patient, gentle handling. In playgroup he was wiggly and jumpy with handlers but tenser with the other dogs, correcting them when they greeted him, and during his last stay he was jumpy but respectful when meeting kids. Due to his length of stay, Boomer is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter who can give him the exercise, patience, and guidance he needs to keep building his confidence. Jumps up + mouths sometimes but easily redirected w/ treats. Wants to greet every human he sees! Per staff 11/14/2025: Boomer was super wiggly and not a fan of restraint during his bloodwork. we had a vet holding him off and me and another nurse securing his body. while we pet his head and held him still he wiggled for awhile, mouthing at my hand before finally calming down and allowing us to do everything. he laid down in my lap and allowed some head pets while the nurses finished everything up. when putting on the cone he backed up and snapped at the cone, being scared of the larger object. he allowed the nurse to hold him and place it over his head. Per staff 11/13/2025: Boomer and i spent some time in the eval room cuddling. As soon as we entered i sat on the floor and Boomer took his place in my lap. We cuddled for a bit before he ended up falling asleep and snoring very loudly. Boomer was then called to go for a vet check. When he came back from his vet check the nurse brought him back to the eval room. He zoomed all over before sitting right back in my lap. I decided to get up and help him get some energy out, so we played with some toys and played tug for a bit before returning him. I carried him back to his kennel as there were a lot of people outside the door and he was spooked. Per staff 11/12/2025: Boomer was on his bed when i approached. he zoomed to the front whining with a super wiggly body. i was able to easily secure him as he jumped out to jump all over me. in the room he bounced from place to place and jumped all over me. he jumped up into my arms as i caught him. he likes to be carried by me (upside down) so i held him before sitting down. when i sat down he crawled himself in my lap showing me belly and licking all over me. We worked on taking treats a bit gentler which worked a couple times as i used an open palm. Per staff 11/11/2025: When i approached his kennel today he was laying down on the bed. He got up slowly, staying on the bed when i opened the door to leash him. I presented the leash and he did not move forward to be leashed until i presented a treat which he grabbed hard from my hand. His ears were back, wide eyes and tail down. Dropped more treats on the ground and was able to leash. He walked out slowly and we went to the eval room. Once in the eval room his tail started wagging, we played some ping pong and he would jump up on me gently. Eyes soft with a loose body, i was able to pet all over. After some time we went outside for a walk. He needed treat trails to go through door ways, he did a lot of sniffing outside and needed treat trails to go back through door ways. To go back into his kennel i tossed a treat and was able to use the clip to slip off the leash. Per staff 11/11/2025: Yesterday when another staff member was performing the eval for boomer. I entered the eval room and he cautiously came over to me. Body lowered, wide eyes and tail down. I dropped a treat and he quickly ate it (he's very food motivated, also very snatchy with treats). After given the treat he jumped up on me, i was able to pet him. He then ran back over to the other staff member who was sitting on the ground leaning in for pets and attention. A couple minutes later, i was over by the freezers putting away enrichment items. He came over to investigate what i was doing, i reached down to give him a pet and did a head whip and possibly little nip but did not make contact as i pulled my hand away. Per staff 11/10/2025: added exp blue attribute for when he can be available for vols to walk -- keeping behavior only as this time Per staff 11/10/2025: Kennel Presentation: Boomer was laying on his bed and came up to the front with soft eyes and low wags. He is scared of the leash so i sued my hand to help him come up further and then looped it around his neck quickly. Leash Skills: pulls minimally Sociability: In the room he was a bouncy and clumsy mess. He allowed all handing and we even did some rough housing. He is SUPER snatchy with treats and they need to be tossed. While i was typing his eval he went into my treat pouch on my side that was opened. he stuffed his face in the pouch to try and eat some. i reached towards the pouch to attempt to close it and he froze with his muzzle on the bag so i left him to take it. I retrieved the empty and torn up plastic bag when i could. He was super wiggly and loose with me otherwise and gave me no issues. When another handler entered the room he stuck himself closer to me but approached them slowly to sniff. he allowed some play and handling. Play: engaged in play, mouthy, super playful, rowdy mess, switched up on another handler and snapped at her a couple times Dog Interaction: good dog meet, curious, tolerant, loose Return to Kennel: i needed to pick him up (i do not recommend picking him up, he is now used to me picking him up) Color Level: exp blue Recommendations and considerations: Per staff 11/9/2025: when he first came in he was very scared but sat on my lap and let me pick him up Per staff 11/9/2025: needs chip in surgery. attempted to microchip him and he tried to bite with muzzle on, but did not get anyone + he was alligator rolling Per staff 11/8/2025: puppy is very mouthy when scared Per finder 11/8/2025: friendly cuddly shy playful MEDICAL NOTES: Per finder 10/3: back legs rash looks a burn maybe During his previous stay, Boomer was neutered and was treated for an upper respiratory infection. -- Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
