Dog was apprehensive but soft in kennel, came out to gate & allowed leashing w/ furrowed brow & slightly hunkered head. She came right out, walked softly on leash, flinched at a reactive dog but did not escalate, handler maintained soft hand on leash. Dog explored leash independently for a few minutes, warmed up and began soliciting attention from handlers, seeking & allowing all petting, often prompting additional, soft eyes & lolling tongue. She benefited from calm, polite interactions. She greeted a new volunteer calmly. She was content to sit by my leg and getting soft pets. She eventually scooted closer and was leaning into my leg. She was a very GOOD girl. 7/22/2026 Lying @ front of kennel, offered treats, gently took treats, presented leash. Walked slowly to main PY while being startled when passing reactive dogs, would continue to walk with verbal coaxing. Explored for a few moments while sniffing nose to ground. Approached handler on own, allowed petting, not interested in treats. Slowly sat down next to handlers feet then would lean into handlers legs while being pet. Would look up towards handler with a soft face & body then would return to looking around surrounds. Handler stood up, dog would follow handler closely while walking around PY. Laid down @ handlers feet when handler sat back down on bench, allowing more petting. Picked up leash & walked back to kennel slowly with verbal coaxing. Entered into kennel & allowed leash removal to be done by hand. Interested parties should be counseled on providing this dog with proper decompression time in a new home.  Allowing time to adjust is important for their comfort and well-being.  Adopters should be counseled on proper dog-to-dog introductions, which should only occur after the dog has fully decompressed. This dog may do best in a home with older children due to a timid nature. Adopters should be aware that they may need additional decompression time and would benefit from a calm, quiet household to help them adjust comfortably. Encourage them to slow down, give the dog space, avoid forcing interactions, and use calm, positive reinforcement to build confidence over time. Interested parties should be made aware of all intake notes. Placing No Cats as a Recommendation. 7/21/2026 Standing in middle of kennel with body hunched over, head lowered, eyes wide, very timid, very quick low growl as handler approached while backing away but able to coax forward with baby talk, not interested in treats offered. Allowed for easy leash placement at front of kennel, exited slowly out of kennel, startled when passing reactive dogs and would start to pull on leash but settled once leash pressure was felt, had slow easy leash pull walking behind handler rest of way to play yard. In yard dog followed handler to bench slowly with tail tucked, head lowered, slight flinch when petted on head but settled, would sit in front of handler accepted pets all over body, will stare at handler when not being petted. Wary of surroundings outside of yard, flinches when startled but remained sitting in front of handler until handler walked around yard, dog would follow handler closely with hunched over body and tail tucked, accepted pets if stopped walking. No interest in treats or toys, some skin crawling when first petted but will inch closer to handler when not being petted. Picked up leash and walked back to kennel with no issues, startled by reactive dogs in passing.
