Stood looking outside yard quietly. 8/7/2026 Reported by animal care staff that dog had been growling and postured forward at kennel door when trying to move; difficult to shift outside potentially due to cone post neuter. Handler approached dog from inside kennel; stiff; hard stare; loosened up when speaking softly and baby talking; shook off; still tense. Handler went outside and spoke to dog; dog stood under guillotine portal hard staring; handler took lock off of kennel and dog let out a deep low growl; let out bark then began coughing; did not come outside. Continued hard staring and growling until handler ended interaction. 8/7/2026 Handler approached kennel back; Dog was standing inside low growling; tense stare; didn't come forward due to cone being on; Handler re approached at front; Dog was standing on bed; tail wagging; neutral; Handler unlocked door and said lets go outside/ potty; dog stood on bed as handler unlocked door and placed leash over cone and around to neck; was able to secure leash with ease; dog walked out running into back of handler and everything; walked to yard with loose leash pull; walked right into yard with no issues was able to secure leash; Dog walked yard and was sniffing and exploring; stopped to urinate and defecate; would be sniffing and cone would continuously scoop up rocks as dog lifted up head to walk; ran into a lot of things with cone; dog was overall calm in yard; mild pant; tail wagging neutral bodied; came up and solicited pets and attention to both handler with and without coaxing; didn't jump on handlers at all; wasn't interested in toys; continued to survey yard and sniff; stood next to handler and solicited more pets and attention; When time to go handler walked over to dog and dog followed to catch pin; allowed leash adjustment with no issues; walked to front of kennel then back to the back due to cleaning; entered kennel with handler picking up cone and showing dog the way; walked into kennel with no issues; unleashed around cone by hand; dog was patient as handler adjusted leash to get past cone; stood in kennel with tail wagging; no further concerns; 8/2/2026 Dog was at front of kennel, wide eyes and furrowed brow, low soft wag as handler tossed treats, ate treats gently through door, remained at front as handler opened door, easily placed leash, dog exited slowly, stopped in front of neighboring kennel with tense body and still tail above spine level, wide eye stare at other dog, followed handler away from kennel with light leash pressure, walked to yard loose leash, would sniff and explore yard very slow with unbalanced gait (see med notes), neutral body and still tail at spine level, would stop and urinate three times, handler walked with dog while holding leash to avoid soiling it, dog would not solicit attention and kept sniffing ground instead, handler dropped leash and walked to bench, dog slowly followed, walking behind bench, took treats gently with soft wag, walked in front of handler and did not stop but tolerated soft petting along his back while slowly passing by, dog would wander for a few more minutes, would not come to handler when called but allowed handler to approach while softly wagging tail at spine level, soft eyes, allowed all petting, handler picked up leash and adjust around dogs neck, dog followed out of yard, entered kennel wing but then turned and tried to pull out of doorway, handler closed door and dog walked to kennel easily, handler tossed treats and dog walked in, allowed leash removal by hand while eating. 8/1/2026 Dog was standing at dooe; Unsure stare; Low growls; Tense; Eyes dilated; stoic ** Due to current kennel presence and previous notes; Requesting full evaluation.** 7/30/2026 although slightly stiff and had occasional hard eyes (softened after warming up a bit) canine did allow all handling. muzzle wrapped for vaccines as a precaution, but canine did not fight against the wrap or vaccines. treat motivated. explored the room a little bit, but walking appears to be difficult, canine remained laying down for most of the intake process. walked slowly and cautiously back to kennel, followed handler into kennel, allowed easy leash removal and door closure.
