Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 8/28/2026 Started taking treats/enrichment with loose body and tail wagging today, began alarm barking and jumping if handler lingered without giving treats 8/24/2026 Pancaked to back of kennel with stiff body, low growling, came lunging forward when handler knelt down but did not fully approach front of kennel, alarm barking and airsnapping, no interest in treats offered, retreated to back of kennel when leash was presented, pancaked and would not come forward. Closed divider and dog was pancaked alongside kennel wall, trembling with fast tucked tail, would come forward to sniff handler with softer body, able to leash with no issues. Exited with some pulling, some zig zag walking pattern and stop n go to play yard with tucked tail, wary of surroundings but curious of dogs in passing and will sniff in direction of dogs with neutral body. Once in yard dog would flinch heavily when applying leash stopper, hunched over body, fast tucked tail wag, began defecating as handler petted dog, would have more softer body when following handler around yard, tail wagging throughout, will approach handler for attentions throughout evaluation, jumps up onto handler for pets with soft body and soft eyes, easy to direct off. Dog became startled and flinched heavily when tossing tennis ball, began alarm barking at handler with stiff body and tail flagged, settled quickly to tucked tail wag, hunched over body when handler baby talked dog over and came forward to solicit attentions with handler leaning in for pets. Has moments throughout evaluation of flinching heavily when first petted, will soften and begin to accept more pets but tenses up when petted on body. Will retreat quickly away from handler when startled by loud noises outside of yard, able to coax back over each time. Came to handler when called over to exit, flinched when removing leash stopper. Easy return to kennel, walked into kennel on own and allowed handler to remove leash by hand. 8/23/2026 Dog was closed to back half of kennel during AM cleaning. Would lower body & head while looking towards divider when opening kennel, not interested in treats. Draped a large loop leash while dog would be low growling, still facing towards kennel divider. Once leashed, dog would turn body towards handler, doing fast tail wag while keeping body lowered to ground & being whale eyed. Walked out of kennel & past behavior taxi with verbal coaxing. Walked throughout main building with verbal coaxing, would stop & pull back on leash then continue to walk all the way to small PY. Did a long shake off of body then started to explore with nose to ground. Would approach handler & quickly placed head onto handlers lap, leaning in for petting on head. Offered treats was not interested in treats. Another handler walked by PY, dog would approach fence line while alarm barking, handler was able to call dog over. Would return to handler with a fast tail wag, allowing more petting. Would do a shake off of body then return to exploring with fast tail wags. Able to pick up leash & walked back to & throughout main building with verbal coaxing, keeping body lowered & ears pinned back. Entered into kennel with verbal coaxing & allowed leash removal to be done by hand slowly without issues. 8/19/2026 Barked and hid behind finder. K9 allowed all handling from finder. In truck kennel, K9 shy-away from ACO touch.
