Memo 8/27/2026 08/27/26 16:15 Canine is exhibiting consistent concerning behaviors both in and out of the kennel. Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 9/1/26 to prevent behavioral decline and provide support in a more appropriate setting. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/2/26 or sooner if warranted. Intake 8/19/2026 How long have you had the animal ? 2-3 days What are the cross streets where you found the animal? Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 8/25/2026 Dog was at front of kennel; alarm barking; stiff body; retreated to back of kennel; tossed treats; not interested; closed divider; pulled from back; dog stood still in middle of kennel; handler was able to easily place leash over head; exited; moderate pull; stopped to urinate; easily startled by surroundings noises; would pull forward; lower body tucked in; looking in several directions. In yard, dog immediately approached handler on chair; nudged handler's hand; placed head on lap; allowed for petting; soft face; stopped petting; dog explored; defecated; would approach handler when verbally coaxed; allowing for all petting; low tail wags; explored; frequently checked in with handler; explored; looked out at surroundings; briefly scanned the top of fences. Picked leash up; exited; startled by reactive dogs; entered main building; staff was walking towards/ past us; dog became startled; pulling away; lower end tucked in; ears back; looking in different directions; continued walking; entered kennel; ears back; low tail wags; allowed handler to slowly remove leash. 8/24/2026 Slowly able to verbally coax to back half of kennel then close divider. Not interested in treats. Would be whale eyed while standing in middle of kennel. Slowly leaned into kennel to leash. Would verbally coax dog to step out of kennel & walked throughout main building to small PY. Once in small PY, handler was able to adjust leash stopper then drop leash. Would explore PY with tail slightly tucked under body & whale eyed. After a few minutes, handler would call dog over, dog would slowly approach handler. Offered treats, was not interested in treats. Slowly extended hand to pet on head, would step forward towards handler then placed head in between handlers legs while continuing to be given pets. Dog would start to untuck tail & give slow tail wags then would return to exploring. Handler walked around in PY, dog would approach handler with slow tail wags & walk along side handler in PY. Picked up leash & walked back to main building & to kennel slowly with verbal coaxing. Would get startled when walking near reactive dog kennels, would look up towards handler & able to continue to walk with verbal coaxing. Entered into kennel & would retreat to divider wall. Removed leash with pre-attached clip leash. 8/23/2026 Closed to back portion of kennel while laying in corner of kennel with trembling body, eyes wide, tense body, hard staring handler. No interest in treats offered or tossed near, froze in place when door was opened. Able to place leash with no issues, dog had tensed up body and would not walk on leash. Positioned taxi to front of kennel and dog sat up attempting to pull away from taxi/front of kennel, let dog settle and when extending hand out dog became stiff, hackles raised, whale eye. Attempted to use slight leash pressure to guide dog into taxi but dog became erratic and ran passed taxi, froze in middle of wing, stiff body, wide eyed, pulling away from handler with some thrashing/biting on leash, will quickly evade or run from handler when handler walked behind dog with tail tucked, body lowered, dog dashed back into kennel quickly. Body still trembling, frozen in place in kennel, due to rising levels of FAS ended evaluation attempt. Used clip leash for leash retrieval. 8/20/2026 does not walk on leash, control device used for intake, did not allow handling, advanced restraint for vaccines, growling, nervous, tense body, whale eyes, flailing on control device, used pet taxi for transport, use caution when handling and approaching 8/19/2026 Finders walked K9 to ACO and K9 barked. K9 hid behind finder. Finder pick up and place into truck kennel.
