Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 8/26/2026 Dog was laying down in kennel. Tried shifting to other side. Dog remained laying down; opened kennel door; dog started growling; lifted head up; leaning to right side; tossed treats; not interested; continued to intensely growl; handler was able to place large loop over; leashed; dog quickly stood up; flipping head; came forward; continuing to growl; tail tucked; very stiff body; dilated pupils; looked in different directions; growling entire time; curled toes in; standing on tip toes; lightly applied leash pressure; dog came forward; lowering head; growling. Ended interaction and was able to remove leash with clip leash. 8/26/2026 Dog began growling & hard-staring handler immediately on approach. During 'kennel-flirting' phase, handler noted numerous instances of dog tensing neck & shoulders unnaturally, may have been attempt at stabilizing as dog was very unsteady on feet, fell numerous times throughout interaction, exhibited delayed response to environmental factors. However, he maintained a rather steady growl, lip-pucker, hard-stare, whale-eye at times, tucked tail. Dog would briefly settle to eat dropped hot dog pieces but resumed growling, did not soften. At initial offering of leash dog popped up at it, seemed to air-snap but some movements & body language were difficult to ascertain due to constant tremors, general unsteadiness. After a while handler was able to get dog leashed, could not lure dog into prototype taxi, dog pulled forcefully toward exit, handler accommodated rather than risk dog taking another fall. Dog walked to yard, relaxed, tail emerged & assumed a more neutral carriage but dog did not seem to soften. Handler opted not to drop leash after dog issued a brief growl. Dog did not seek soft contact/interaction but would lean/steady self against handler's leg. Ground seemed very poor environment for dog, handler opted to end walk, dog left yard readily. On way back, handler made sure to position leg closest to dog such that dog would be able to lean, bump into & push back off it should he need the stabilization, which he did numerous times. Head-tilt was more prominent on way back to kennel. Handler was able to attach clip-leash, thus removed slip-lead after dog went readily back into kennel. Dropped jackpot of hot dogs into kennel, dog fell over as he lowered head to eat a particular piece. Still monitoring handler, neither soft nor engaging. Handler came back to retrieve taxi, dog again growled at his approach but again distracted for hot dogs. 8/25/2026 Dog didn't eat. Dog laying down in the back of his kennel. Growl while approching the front part of his kennel.Day 3: will be offering some treats on kibble today. 8/24/2026 Did not eat kibble Day 2 going to add WF mixed into kibble, laying in back of kennel trembling, refused tossed treats had low growl. 8/23/2026 dog didnt eat kibble offered 8/22/2026 used control device for intake, allowed minor handling, advanced restraint for vaccines, tense body, intermittent hard staring, yelping and growling while on control device, use caution when handling 8/22/2026 On approach, dog wide eyed, alarm barking, gorwling. Unable to come near dog.
