Button is an adoptable male Cane Corso Mastiff looking for a home at Riverside County Animal Services-Riverside in Jurupa Valley, California. He is fully grown and x-large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Button, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

MUST EXIT SHELTER BY TUESDAY 09/08 5PM*** Behavior/Space Can you help Button? Transferdas@rivco.org Breed: Cane Corso mix Age: The shelter staff think I am about 3 years old. On his first day, Button walked well on leash and listened to his handler. ✨ Staff noted that he was playful, energetic, and even showed puppy-like behavior during handling. ✨ He has tolerated other dogs and gave appropriate greetings. His play style was described as minimal. ✨ He participated in a play group on 8/28. ✨ On 9/3, he did well on leash and became very loose, wiggly and affectionate, actively soliciting attention from his handler in the play yard. ✨ He had no problems being re-kenneled. But there is also a serious concern that cannot be ignored. On 9/1, staff observed Button become increasingly tense at the front of his kennel, followed by low growling, lip pursing, fixation, and then an explosive reaction when the handler moved past his kennel. Because of this behavior, he is currently RED due to behavior. This doesn't mean Button is hopeless. It means he needs the RIGHT person and the RIGHT environment. A shelter kennel is an incredibly stressful place, especially for a 118-pound Cane Corso, and his behavior has clearly been inconsistent depending on the situation. Button is currently kenneled alone due to his size. 💔 He was also noted to be underweight at intake, with prominent ribs and a body condition score of 4/9. What Button needs is someone experienced with Cane Corsos or similar powerful breeds who understands boundaries, decompression, proper handling, and behavior management. He is NOT a dog for an inexperienced owner or a casual placement.
