We do not know what happened to Scrappy
The date this shelter listed for Scrappy has passed. Shelters often push these dates back, and many pets are adopted or pulled by a rescue first, so Scrappy may still be there. The shelter can tell you.
Scrappy is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at NYC ACC-Queens in Ridgewood, New York. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to behavior, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Scrappy may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.
This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. This pet is available only through ACC New Hope partners. To adopt or foster, please complete the pre-screener form below. Inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response. Pre-Screener Form Scrappy is at risk for behavior concerns. Scrappy has not acclimated well to the shelter enviornment and has only allowed for minimal handling. He avoids leashing and can be difficult to remove from his crate at times, and once out, he avoids interaction with handlers. Scrappy will scale walls and doors in an attempt to seek an exit while heavily panting, tail tucked, and head persistently scanning his area out of hyper-vigilance. On one occasion, he was almost able to get an office door open. Medically, Scrappy is apparently healthy. Scrappy was surrendered by his previous owner due to moving to a new home that did not allow pets. His previous family described him as a very active and playful yet quiet dog who spent his time where his people were when he was not in the living room or a bedroom of the home. Scrappy is reported to like scratches by his ears, loves going for a car ride despite being nervous when getting into a car, and he loves all food and treats he is offered. He has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. Scrappy has been highly fearful and avoidant of interaction and leashing. When out of the kennel, he readily seeks an exit and avoids handlers/staff. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
