Westbrook
Pit Bull Terrier (mix breed)
Urgent: 1 Day Left
Scheduled: September 21, 2026
Reason: Lack of Space
Westbrook is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Westbrook, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Westbrook ACCT-A-259480 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Westbrook must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST at 10AM. Should Westbrook's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Westbrook came to ACCT Philly on August 24th after being found loose inside an apartment building. He is a playful, affectionate guy with a big, wiggly personality who greets people with soft eyes, perked-up ears, and plenty of enthusiasm. He's very treat motivated, takes treats gently, and loves to run and chase after balls in the yard. He's still learning how to channel all that excitement and can be a very strong puller on leash, so a harness and some training would be helpful as he works on his leash skills. He can pull hard and become fixated when greeting other dogs on leash and shows lots of playful energy and enthusiasm when meeting dogs in playgroup. With his high energy and love of running and playing, he would do best with an active household that can provide plenty of exercise, structure, and positive-reinforcement training. Westbrook is ready for someone who will give him the guidance he needs to settle in and shine!'Due to his length of stay, Westbrook is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Strong puller! Per staff 9/11, playgroup: Brought out for playgroup. First dog in the yard. When Scooby came up he pulled hard toward the fence with tense body, ears forward, hard eyes and mid tail. Scooby was muzzle punching the fence. Attempted a leash meet, both dogs were pulling hard towards each other and Scooby air snapped towards Westbrook. Westbrook remained fixated and pulling towards him. Per staff 9/11: High energy. Moderate issues on leash. Per staff 9/8: High energy. Good boy, pulls really hard. Loves to run and chase. Per staff 9/7: High energy. Pulls bad. Per volunteer 9/6: High energy. Very good runner, strong but no jumping at all. Very straight, very gentle. Per staff 9/4: High energy. Mild issues on leash. Per staff 8/31: High energy. Very strong. Pulls on leash. Super sweet. Per volunteer 8/30: When I approached his kennel, he came to the front of it with a wiggly body and soft eyes with perked up ears. I easily looped the leash around his neck, and he energetically jumped out of the kennel. He pulls quite a bit on leash and zigzags while walking out of the shelter. I'd recommend a harness due to pulling. Out in the play yard, he was a playful boy and would chase after balls when I threw them! He would sometimes pick them up and run with them, then usually dropped them and came back to me. He is very treat motivated and jumps up repeatedly when I took treats out. He takes them gently out of my hand. He did seem quite jumpy overall and just needs some training for how to express his excitement. Met new handlers in the volunteer office and was super wiggly to meet. Still very jumpy. Really sweet boy, can't wait to see him shine once he isn't so overstimulated! No issues returning to kennel. Per staff 8/30: Mildly jumpy. Medium energy. Sniff a lot. Pull a bit. Good on walk and on leash. Per staff 8/28: Medium energy. Good dog. Per staff 8/27: Medium energy. Good dog, very curious. Per volunteer 8/26: High energy. Bathroom break. Treat motivated. Pulls and jumps. Per staff 8/26, playgroup: Good gate greetings. Tolerant and moved away. Push/pull play and some vocalizing. Due to pulling hard on the leash and pulled hard towards other dogs, making Blue. Per staff 8/26: Medium energy. Playgroup. Per staff 8/25, playgroup: Steer test: 1/5 with water and 2/5 with can. Mid tail going in a full circle with ears back at fence greeting. Rushed greetings, push/pull play. Quick bouncy moves. Play pauses and good at handicapping with a dog who was more gentle/dainty. Per staff 8/25: Low-medium energy. Playgroup.
