About Oreo Blizzard

Oreo Blizzard is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with just one day left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Oreo Blizzard, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Oreo Blizzard ACCT-A-259394 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Oreo Blizzard must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21ST at 10AM. Should Oreo Blizzard's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Oreo Blizzard came to ACCT Philly as an owner surrender on August 22nd. She can be a little shy and unsure when first meeting new people, but once she settles in, her sweet and affectionate personality shines through. She loves pets and will happily stay close to her people, nudging in for attention. She also takes treats gently, knows sit, and walks nicely on leash. Oreo Blizzard has become more comfortable during her time at the shelter, with recent notes describing her as a very sweet girl with medium to medium-high energy. She has also enjoyed meeting other dogs and has generally been described as sociable and relaxed during playgroup. Oreo Blizzard may appreciate a little patience and time to acclimate in a new home, especially as she adjusts to new surroundings and routines. Her previous owner described her as friendly, playful, housetrained, crate trained, and good with strangers, children, and dogs, noting that she can be shy with other dogs at first. She loves being outside, soft blankets, and chew toys, and would enjoy an active home with plenty of space to explore. Due to her length of stay, Oreo Blizzard is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or experienced adopter. Per staff 8/24, playgroup: Steer test: 3-4/5 with water, no can due to fearfulness. Good greetings at the fence, ears back, low tail wags. Low growled when being greeted upon entering the yard with wide eyes and ears back. Handlers moved the other dogs away; when being greeted again, sat down with wide eyes and ears back, lip licked. Would go up to the handlers with softer wide eyes, low tail wags. Per volunteer 8/23: When I approached the kennel, Oreo Blizzard was laying on her cot at the front of the kennel. She was looking up with wide eyes and her ears back. I opened the door and she immediately got up and retreated to the back of the kennel with her tail tucked and staying low. I threw treats in and she slowly approached to eat them off the floor, and I was able to close the guillotine. She continued to eat treats off the floor but would not eat them from me. I threw my leash in to lasso her, and she backed up and retreated to the ground. Once she was leashed, she did step out of the kennel with mild leash pressure. She walks well on the leash but maintained a tucked tail. Her eyes were darting around a bit and she did seem spooked at times. Outside, she sniffed on leash but maintained her body language. She did not accept treats outside. We went into the volunteer office, where I kept her on leash but sat down. Eventually she did start taking certain treats from me. She started to untuck her tail and give some low tail wags. She knows sit. When returning to the kennel, she walked okay through the kennels but then pancaked right outside the kennel door. I threw treats inside and she did not move. I walked away from the kennel and attempted to reset, and I was able to use leash pressure to get her to step in. She ate the treats once inside. Per owner surrender notes 8/22: She is friendly and playful, she loves soft blankets. Housetrained and crate trained. High energy. Knows sit. No behavioral concerns. Likes chew toys. Good with strangers and children. Good with dogs, shy at first. Unsure about cats. Her ideal home would be a'home with more space and yard. She loves to be outside and is very active.
