Dixon is an adoptable male American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is a young adult and medium in size. Intake Info: Dixon A2343452 was picked up by one of our Animal Care and Control officers. He was observed to be fearful and scared during pickup and transport. Medical: Dixon is heartworm negative, approximately 2 years old, fully processed, and currently receiving treatment for kennel cough. Staff Notes: Dixon has been observed to be avoidant and hesitant to make eye contact. He was started on FAS medication to help reduce his stress and anxiety in the shelter environment. Since being here, Dixon has opened up with patient, gentle interaction from a staff member. He was timid at first but warmed up significantly, sitting in the staff member's lap and enjoying being pet all over. He is a playful boy who enjoys picking up his toys and bringing them out when someone enters his kennel, looking for attention and interaction. Request to Rescues: Dixon is in need of a rescue that is willing to give him the time and guidance he needs to build his confidence. While the shelter environment appears to be overwhelming for him, he has shown that there is a sweet, playful side underneath his initial fear. A quieter environment and consistent support could help Dixon continue to come out of his shell and feel more comfortable. He is also currently being treated for kennel cough and would benefit from a much-needed break from the shelter while he continues to recover.
