Spud is an adoptable male Staffordshire Bull Terrier looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. He is fully grown and medium in size. More Info: I have been at the shelter since Sep 09, 2026. I am in kennel DB42. ID #A2094226 3-year-old Staffordshire Mix | Male | White Weight: 49 lbs Intake: 9/9/26 Status: Rescue only (medical) Spud was surrendered because his owner moved and was unable to take him. ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES: Spud is most likely deaf. Multiple staff members observed that he doesn't respond to voices or other sounds and often needs a gentle touch to wake him. His ears remained relaxed even when sounds were made directly in front of his kennel. Spud is also dealing with a significant orthopedic problem. On 9/17, he was not bearing weight on his right rear leg. X-rays on 9/18 showed abnormalities involving both hips, including a deformed left femoral head with inadequate hip socket coverage and a mottled appearance of the right femoral head/neck/acetabulum. Possible causes include Legg-Perthes disease, hip dysplasia or other bone disease. He needs radiologist review and an orthopedic consultation. 💊 Rimadyl/Carprofen 100 mg daily x14 days 💊 Gabapentin 300 mg twice daily x14 days 💊 Tramadol 125 mg twice daily x3 days ❤️ Heartworm NEGATIVE/NAD ⸻ 🐾BEHAVIOR NOTES: Despite everything Spud is facing, his behavior notes describe an incredibly gentle dog. Staff call him 'very sweet' and say he loves attention. He is calm and quiet in his kennel, often curled up asleep on his blanket. When awake, he greets people with a loose body, wagging tail and soft expression. Spud is easy to leash and repeatedly documented walking on a loose leash to and from the runs. Because he cannot reliably hear someone approaching, staff gently touch him to let him know they are there.
