Polo

Polo is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at NYC ACC-Queens in Ridgewood, New York. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to behavior. Adopting Polo, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

In the care center, Polo has shown significant kennel stress and high arousal, including persistent barking and screeching, jumping repeatedly on handlers, and kennel fighting when exiting the kennel room. His jumping has been difficult to redirect at times and has left bruising on a handler. Polo has shown improvement over time and responds well to pattern games, allowing him to disengage from other kennels and refocus on handlers. He has also been observed walking with a loose leash, checking in frequently, and remaining social with handlers but is struggling to acclimate at times. Medically, Polo is apparently healthy. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Not only do I pull at heart strings, but I also pull on leash! I will need someone to help me with my leash manners. I'm ready to learn!
