Louve is an adoptable female German Shepherd looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a young adult and medium in size. Intake Info: Louve A2344013 was reported to be running loose with a Husky after a complainant reported that the dogs had been involved in an incident with a duck. While on scene, the complainant was unable to identify which dog was responsible. The complainant later called back to report that a neighbor had seen a raccoon involved in the incident, not the dogs, so it remains unclear whether Louve was involved. The source also reported that Louve and the Husky were being housed in a small shed outside. Medical: Louve is estimated to be approximately 4 years old, heartworm positive, fully processed, and currently receiving treatment for kennel cough. Behavior Notes: Louve was initially very apprehensive when approached in her kennel. She would freeze, whale eye, and move away when the leash was brought near her. With slow and gentle handling, staff were able to place a loop leash on her, and she was eager to follow out of the kennel. Outside, she remained cautious but showed submissive body language and allowed brief gentle touch. She was not ready for a collar at that time, so staff did not push the interaction and allowed her to decompress. Staff Notes: Louve has already shown significant progress with patient, quiet interaction. She is timid around loud noises but will accept treats and lick hands through the kennel. Once comfortable, she relaxes, seeks attention, and will nudge for affection. She has been observed sitting for treats, walking on leash, and allowing staff to pet her all over. She is treat motivated and a willing listener when the environment is calm. During one interaction, Louve rolled over in a staff member's lap and enjoyed belly rubs. She has also shown interest in other dogs while walking through the kennel area. Request to Rescues: Louve is in urgent need of rescue due to being heartworm positive and currently undergoing treatment for kennel cough. She will need a rescue able to continue supporting her medical needs while she recovers. A quieter environment would also give her the opportunity to continue building confidence while receiving the medical care and support she needs.
