Lucky is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Lucky, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

This high-energy sweetheart is full of personality, wiggles, and enthusiasm for life. Lucky loves attention, is highly motivated by treats, and already knows how to sit. He's a smart boy who enjoys learning new things, exploring the outdoors, and playing with toys. Give him a little attention, and you'll likely get a full-body wiggle and some of those adorable ears on full display! Lucky is an affectionate, playful pup who loves getting out for adventures. He can be quite enthusiastic on leash and tends to pull when something exciting catches his attention, especially other dogs, so he'll benefit from continued leash training and guidance. He can also get jumpy when excited and may grab treats a little enthusiastically, but his love of snacks makes them a great tool for helping him learn. With consistency, patience, and plenty of positive reinforcement, Lucky has lots of potential to build great manners. Lucky has spent time in dog playgroups and has shown that he can be social and playful, but he can also become overly pushy, including attempting to mount and continuing to engage when another dog wants space. He has also been involved in a scuffle with another dog, so any dog introductions should be handled thoughtfully by experienced adults, and he will need careful management around other animals. For now, he would do best with a home prepared to prioritize safe introductions and help him develop appropriate social skills. Per volunteer 9/27/26: 'I had Lucky out when I cam in and went into iso 1 handsome man was loose in the room I did not know it and when I opened the door the two got into a fight I got the hose and sprayed them and I was able to split them up' Per staff (regarding the volunteer note) After speaking with him, he had Lucky and was returning from a walk. He opened the door to ISO 1 and Handsome man was loose and they interacted at the door. The volunteer noted that they sniffed and touched noses as he was trying to close the door to keep handsome man in. The other dogs in the room were barking and Handsome Man and Lucky got side to side then lucky snapped at Handsome Man and a scuffle started. He got over to the airhorn and tried it and started it was empty so he went over to the hose and sprayed it to separate them and called on the walkie for help. The hose worked and he was able to get the dogs separated. An ACA and a nurse showed up shortly after. Per staff 9/12/26: I accompanied a volunteer while they took Lucky out. He was easily leashed, pulled mildly on leash, and was eager to meet other dogs through the fence. He play-bowed, ran along the fence, and kept whining towards the other dog. In the yard, he allowed all handling, would jump up for pets, sat for treats, and was mildly snatchy (recommend tossing). He went back into kennel easily. Playgroup 9/11/26: Not steerable. Forward greetings. Became overly pushy with Toby. Nipping at his neck and chasing him. Corrected when Toby was just trying to move away. Per staff 9/10: Sweet Lucky knows sit takes treats gently and is very treat motivated. He is wiggly throughout and chased some toys. Learned the A frame in one slippy attempt then confidently jumped sit up to sit with me after that. Very mildly jumpy, easily redirected then stopped. Happy boy Playgroup 9/10/26: First in the yard. Good forward greetings with Petunia, jumping on her, loose wiggly body. Tried to mount Crodie and got overcorrected. Mingled around a little bit afterwards. Per staff 9/9/26: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes, ears to the side and loose/wiggly body. Leash Skills: Tossed treats towards the back since he was right at the front of the kennel so I could opened the door. Easy to leash and came right out of kennel. Mildly pulls on the leash and zig zags. Sociability: Loose and wiggly with soft eyes, ears to the side when handling. Jumpy and snatchy with treats. Will sit and catch the treats ( best to toss or use an open palm) Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Royaltee. Came on strong, able to move away. Did not react when she air snapped at him Able to sniff and be sniffed. Return to Kennel: Went right into kennel and removed leash with hand. Color Level: Exp Gold Playgroup 9/9/26: Steer test: 3-4/5 with water and can Full body wiggles at the fence. Right in to the yard and tried to hump. Steered off by staff.Pushy play, can take breaks Per staff 9/8: Rowdy & jumpy, but still easy Jumping on the door- excited Pulled moderately Yes, I handled the dog. Super wiggly body language - sought out attention from handler. Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue In a state of high arousal / high energy the whole time we were outside. Loose body language but a little intense. Snatchy with treats and toys. Double gold or potentially gold behavior level suggested. Playgroup 9/8/26: Steer Test: 4-5/5 with water and can. Came in hot, jumped on Crodie and got corrected. Pushy at first playing with the other dogs then fell into some nice push pull play taking breaks. Towards the end started to try to mount Roxie continuously and was removed from the yard. Playgroup 9/6/26: Steer test 2-3/5 with water and 0/5 with can Good gate greetings with full body wiggles, ears to the side and tail going in a circle. Forward greetings. Bouncy moves. Attempts to hump. Good corrections. Pushy Per staff 9/5/26 (Regarding meet with Nuggie): Good greetings. Consistently trying to mount. Per finder 9/5/26: Lucky was found on 9/4 and was described as being nice to strangers, but tried to attack other animals, he kept pulling on leash, and was overall friendly, cuddly, aggressive, and playful ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
