About Lila

Lila is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and large in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Lila, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Lila ACCT-A-261494 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Lila must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Sunday, October 11th 2026 at 10AM. Should Lila's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Lila, your future cuddle buddy and professional belly-rub enthusiast! This sweet girl has a way of making everyone she meets feel special. She absolutely loves people and is happiest when she's soaking up affection, leaning in for pets, or rolling over for belly rubs. She has a lovely, laid-back side and enjoys leisurely walks and quiet time with her favorite humans, but she also has a playful, curious streak that keeps life interesting. Lila is a joy to spend time with, and volunteers consistently rave about how affectionate, gentle, and wonderful she is! Lila is a smart cookie, too! She knows cues like 'sit' and 'touch,' is very motivated by treats, and is eager to engage with her handler. She has been described as an easy walking companion who often walks nicely on leash and is a breeze to bring back to her kennel. She also appears to be housetrained, which could make settling into a home that much easier. Whether you're looking for a buddy to join you for a stroll or a sweet companion to snuggle up with after a long day, Lila has plenty of love to give. When it comes to other animals, Lila has a curious side and can become very focused on dogs, cats, and even birds she spots outdoors. Her relationships with other dogs have been inconsistent, and she has shown some concerning behavior during dog interactions. For this reason, Lila would do best as the only pet in the home for now, with a family committed to managing her environment and helping her maintain a comfortable distance from other animals. She can be particularly focused on other dogs when she sees them, so apartment living or other settings with frequent, close encounters with unfamiliar dogs may not be the best fit for her. A home with more space and the ability to maintain distance from other animals would be ideal. Any future dog introductions should be slow, carefully managed, and supported by a qualified positive-reinforcement trainer. Lila has so much to offer the right adopter: affection in abundance, a love of treats, and a serious talent for making people smile. If you're looking for a devoted companion who wants to be your number-one girl, Lila would love the chance to meet you! Videos: **NEW** Look at Lila!: Lila & Harpo: Playgroup 9/13: Leela, Blanco, Lila (forward, overcorrection): Lila and Emmy lou dog meet: Lila fence meet Lila Behavior Notes: Per dog meet 10/6: Muzzle punched at the fence, pulled towards him in the yard, lip licking face to face, able to sniff and be sniffed Per staff 10/6/26: Not ideal for apartment living due to selective with dogs and fixation seen here at the shelter Per staff 10/6/26: Brought Lila out for a dog meet. She was standing on her hind legs with paws on the front door. Soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail loosely wagging. Food motivated. Mildly pulled on leash. Fixated on a pigeon and pulled hard towards it. When Harpo came up to the fence Lila ran up and muzzle punched the fence. In the yard she pulled hard towards him with an opened mouth and lip licking. Able to have them sniff each other. She is extremely food motivated. This meet was heavily orchestrated and Lila was able to move away easily however I still would not warrant this as a good dog meet. Lila will need more positive interactions with a positive reinforcement trainer to help.
