Chase
Pit Bull Terrier
Urgent: 3 Days Left
Scheduled: October 12, 2026
Reason: Lack of Space
Chase is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Chase, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Chase ACCT-A-241670 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Chase must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by MONDAY, OCTOBER 12TH at 10AM. Should Chase's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Chase first came to ACCT Philly on January 21st as a police intake and has been in and out of our care several times since, most recently as a stray on September 13th. Chase is a sweet, treat-motivated boy who can be shy at first. On his most recent arrival, he approached low to the ground, then quickly lit up with kisses and excitement as soon as someone engaged with him. He takes treats gently, enjoys attention, and is often excited to leave his kennel. He even did great at a recent photoshoot with a costume and new people. On leash, he is eager to follow his nose and pulls toward interesting smells, so a harness and some leash training would be helpful. Chase has good greetings with other dogs and enjoys push-pull play, though he can get pushy or rough with some playmates and may not respond to attempts to slow him down when play gets too intense. He may move away on his own or give appropriate corrections to other dogs, though he has overcorrected as well. Chase initially came to ACCT Philly with multiple other dogs after a bite incident occurred in the home, but additional information provided afterward led to the conclusion that Chase was not involved. In our care, Chase has been friendly and affectionate with people and has allowed handling. Due to his length of stay, Chase is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. VIDEOS: Playgroup 9/30: Playgroup 9/29: Cold Club Playgroup 9/20: Playgroup 8/28: Playgroup 8/27: Playgroup 8/24: BEHAVIOR NOTES: Per volunteer 10/3: Excited to leave kennel. Did great at photoshoot with costume and new people. Per staff 10/3: Painting kennel with feces. Per staff 9/30, playgroup: Not steerable with water or can. Good gate greetings with ears to the side. Tolerant, moving away. Gave an appropriate correction when Lord Nibbler was being pushy. However later Chase gave an overcorrection. Per staff 9/29, playgroup: Steer Test: 1-2/5 with water and 0 with can. Good greetings at the fence and in the yard. Moving away on his own. Started to get pushy with Cher, following her around with ears forward and a tenser body. Handlers intervened and separated them. Per staff 9/20, playgroup: Steer Test: 1/5 with water and 0/5 with can. Good fence greetings. Pushy in the yard, rougher play, mouthy with Doman. Handlers tried steering to slow him down and he did not respond. Was removed from the yard. Per staff 9/20: Kennel Presentation: When I approached his kennel, he started jumping up on the door with a wiggly, loose body and straight up ears and wagging tail. I was able to leash him on the first try and he jumped right out of the kennel. Leash Skills: On leash, he zigzags and pulls quite a bit so I would recommend a harness and some leash training. Very interested in any smells he can get to and will pull to get to them. Sociability: He's also very treat motivated. He takes them pretty gently out of your hand. Took some pets from me, didn't solicit them out too much. Was a gentle boy with me today. Play: In the play yard he explored the smells and was very interested in toys. Dog Interaction: Good sniffs through the fence, we didn't do any full meets today. Return to Kennel: Went in easily and tried to run away for unleashing so needed to use a bit of leash pressure. Color Level: Behaviorally he was gold however, with a bite history, I gave him Blue for color. Per staff 9/18:'Some concerns were raised that Chase may have hearing problems. However, he heard the kennel door being opened and reacted to noise normally in exam room aside from when fixated on cats. Seems as though hearing is fine, just gets fixated and decides what he wants to pay attention/respond to. Per staff 9/13: BAR, very sweet, approached with tail tucked and cowering to the ground / army crawl towards me, once I engaged he jumped up and was giving kisses, very friendly/excited. Per staff 8/28, playgroup: Steer test 1/5 with water and 3/5 with can. Good gate greetings. Mid tail, ears to the side. Push/pull. Good breaks. More pushy with Alphabet, then growled. Steered off by staff. Per staff 8/27, playgroup: Steer Test: Not steerable 0/5 both water and can. Came in hot, good greetings with Snoop Dog, push pull play, pushy. Per staff 8/26: A volunteer attempted to take Chase out for a walk. She was able to get her leash on however he would not exit the kennel. Kept backing away. I tried a treat lure however he would not go past kennel door and kept backing up. I was able to remove leash with a pile of treats on the ground. Per staff 8/24: Kennel Presentation: At the front of his kennel soft eyes, ears back, mid to low tail wags, loose body. Took a treat very gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash. Hesitated to come out, loose wiggly body, mid level wags, ears back, soft eyes. With baby talk slowly stepped out. Walked slowly, staying near the walls, wide eyes, low tail, tense body, ears back. Pancaked a few times, not eating, able to keep moving with some leash pressure and a jog. Once outside shook off, pulled moderately, ears back, mid level tail wags, loose body. Sociability: Came over for treats, allowed all handling with ears back, soft wide eyes, low tail, loose body. Would nudge my hand when I stopped petting him and rested it on my leg. Sniffed around the yard and went up to the fence with loose body, low tail wags, soft eyes when people walked by. Took treats gently outside. Play: No interest in toys. Dog Interaction: Pulls towards dogs, mid level tail, ears back, not able to be redirected with calling or treats, able to keep moving with leash pressure. Return to Kennel: Pancaked when approaching the door to return inside wide eyes, ears back. Tried a different door and he did the same thing. Allowed me to pick him up to carry inside. Once inside walked back slowly with wide eyes, ears pinned back, tense body, low tail. Hopped right into kennel and laid down on his bed when I removed my leash by hand. Color Level: Exp Blue Per staff 8/24, playgroup: Steer Test: 0/5 water and 1/5 can. Good greetings at the fence. Came in hot with a loose body and instant push pull play with Thragg. Not captured on video due to technical difficulties. Forward when greeting Smooches, listened to correction. Per staff 7/17: When I approached Chase in his crate, he greeted me with soft eyes and somewhat loose body language. He readily sniffed my hand when I offered it to him. He allowed me to place a leash without any difficulty, and walked easily out of the kennel. Once in the main aisle of the kennels, he was a bit nervous, but walked to the doors with me without any issue. Once in the hallway, he pulled fairly strongly on the leash to get to the door at the end of the hall, although he stopped and looked at me whenever I stopped or applied additional leash pressure. In back office, he was initially very nervous, but readily accepted hot dogs. He allowed a gentle exam of the ears, although he was sensitive to touch in some spots. After completing exam, offered him meds in a hot dog, which he ate enthusiastically. Walked back to kennel easily, and went into crate without issue, accepting a hot dog as a reward after I removed the leash. Per staff 1/21: Male dog was removed from police wagon by ACA on leash with no issues noted. One or both adult dogs bit a person. Police officers noted that bite victim is not the owner of the dogs and is a homeless individual who had entered the home seeking shelter at which point she encountered the dogs. Police officers noted that they believe the female dog is the one who bit her, possibly while defending her puppies. -- Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
