Merrick is an adoptable male Great Pyrenees looking for a home at Los Angeles County - Lancaster in Lancaster, California. He is fully grown and medium in size. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' He was easily collared by the runner in the catch pen. He entered the play yard with soft body language. He was approached by a female Pitbull. He tolerated her sniffing him, but he was tense. When she lingered in his face, he remained tense and switched to a high stiff curved tail. A handler steered the female Pitbull away to give him space. He was then approached by a male shepherd and tolerated him sniffing him, but he was tense. He began to calmly roam the yard and explore. He was tolerant of dogs trailing him to sniff him. After some time, he appeared to relax a little more. He exchanged some softer greetings with the calm dogs. He remained wary of the higher energy dogs or dogs lingering in his face. He would do best with a very calm dog that will respect his space and boundaries. He will also need further socialization to walking on leash.
