About Billie

Billie is an adoptable female Husky looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Billie, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Billie ACCT-A-262716 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Billie must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23RD at 10AM. Should Billie's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Billie, a beautiful approximately 3-year-old black-and-white Husky with a loving heart, a sweet personality, and so much affection to share! Billie arrived at ACCT Philly on September 24th after being found as a stray outside a body shop. While she was initially frightened by the unfamiliar shelter environment, this special girl has made wonderful progress and has shown staff just how affectionate, gentle, and delightful she can be once she feels comfortable. Billie has become a beloved companion in the behavior office, where she has spent her days showing off her wonderful manners and affectionate personality. She loves greeting familiar people with a loose, happy body and adorable little \"woos.\" She happily leans into pets, nudges hands when the affection stops, and even climbs up for lap time! Billie has also proven to be an excellent office companion, spending her days relaxing peacefully on her favorite blanket without getting into things. She has kept her space clean, consistently waits to go potty outside, and willingly returns to her crate when needed. Her progress with handling and leash walking has been especially encouraging! Although Billie initially struggled with leaving her kennel, more recent interactions describe her as easy to leash, pleasant to walk, and incredibly affectionate. Volunteers have praised her sweet, cuddly personality, and her most recent notes describe her as energetic, loving, and easy to handle. She enjoys getting outside, settles nicely with movement, and loves being close to her people. Billie has also participated in multiple playgroups, demonstrating appropriate greetings, playful bows, short moments of play, and the ability to move away from other dogs when she needs space. She has shown that she can communicate her boundaries appropriately and appears to appreciate respectful interactions. Her growing confidence, affectionate nature, and positive interactions show just how much this lovely girl has to offer. Billie came behind me from then on to avoid contact with other dog. 10/14/2026 Per volunteer 10/13/2026: bumping Billie down to experienced Gold. Billie was easy to leash and hopped right out of her kennel on her own. She walked nicely on leash and once we got to grass she relieved herself. She allowed all handling and stayed close by me. She remained loose our whole interaction. No issues returning to kennel as she hopped right back on her own. 10/10/2026 Playgroup 10.10 Appropriate greetings. Play bows, moves away on her own. She keeps her kennel crate clean over night. Immediately goes to the bathroom once outside. She is also an angel during the day and is able to hang out in the office unsupervised outside of the crate. There is a blanket in front of my desk and she just lays on there until we come back to the office. She really enjoyed some disposable enrichment. Billie is a grazer with her food. She will eat a few pieces here and there throughout the day. 10/07/2026 Gave Billie a nylabone smeared with PB. She did mildly guard the bone from me and the other the behavior staff. She froze over the bone. However she had not shown this behavior with her food or any other object we have given her. 10/05/2026 Billie has now been in the behavior office for a week. Each day she shows us what an incredible girl she is. In the morning she greets with loose body and little woos. She can be in the office all day without being in the crate. She does not get into anything. Multiple people have come into the office and she has greeted them with a loose body. She will lean into all pets. 10/03/2026 meeting Fernando Good greetings. Bouncy moves. Moved away on her own 10/02/2026 Last couple of days Billie has been able to hang out in the office free roaming. Any time I come back in she is just relaxing on the blanket on the floor In front of my desk. She does well going back into her crate. She has been pretty picky with food. She did eat a little bit of baby food and tuna. 09/30/2026 Had a loose body, mid to low tail wags, ears back. Did some stiff bouncy moves and play bows with me in the office. I moved over towards her blanket where her food and toys were. She moved with me and stood over her food, very lightly mouthed my hand then stood with a tenser body, low still tail, ears back and harder eyes, let out a short growl and I backed away. The other staff member in the office was able to approach her and move her into the crate, moving her food with her for the night. 09/29/2026 Brought Billie into the office and she was such an angel during the day. She would come over soliciting attention, nudging my hand when i would stop petting. Then she would go lay down on the blanket i placed in front of the desk. She would go right into the crate when i needed to leave the office without hesitation. 09/29/2026 Playgroup 9/29: 1/5 with water and 4/5 with can. Hopped on the bench when she entered and remained there whining occasionally. Gave a vocal correction fro space when Harpo tried to sniff her. 09/29/2026 During my morning walk through I noticed Billie had 4 clips on her kennel card indicating that she has not been out in four days. She has in the back of the crate barking when I approached. Had to lasso to leash, not eating high value treats. Once the leash was on she came right out of crate. Mildly pulls on leash. Immediately went to the bathroom outside. Leaned into all handling would nudge my hand when I would stop petting. Went right back into the crate and used the clip leash to remove the leash. Later decided to bring her into the office and when I went to get her out of the crate she did not need to be lasso'd this time. Billie slowly came to the front and her head was lowered and able to leash. In the office she explored and then came over to me putting her legs on my lap leaning into all handling. 09/25/2026 playgroup Steer test 3/5 with water and 0/5 with can Avoidant. Handler oriented.
