Bexar

Bexar is an adoptable male American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at San Antonio Animal Care Services in San Antonio, Texas. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Bexar, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

08/09/2026 Dog displays sociability with handler by coming over to greet with a loose body and a low wagging tail and is easy to leash and walk out of kennel where he is fearful while walking through building and is easy to lure into walking. Outside, he walks well on leash and displays sociability with all handlers by coming over for treats and affection with a loose body and a wagging tail. He displays sociability with dogs at barrier by greeting appropriately with a loose body and a low wagging tail. He is easy to return to kennel. 08/12/2026 Small Play Group: Dog displays sociability by greeting both male and female dogs appropriately and engaging in play with a loose body and wagging tail. He communicates for space appropriately. After a dog rushes towards him and knocks him over, he is stressed by retreating to a corner of the yard while panting with pinned ears. He lays down here for the remainder of the interaction and communicates for space each time a dog approaches him to greet. He is easy to return to kennel. 08/13/2026 Dog was evaluated with A821227 for co-housing. Both dogs greeted appropriately with mutual sniffing. A821227 displayed interest in interacting with Dog, approaching with a wagging tail and offering multiple play bows. Dog was initially somewhat nervous but responded to the other dog's play invitations and initiated reciprocal play. The dogs engaged in running and gentle play throughout the yard, including jumping onto the dog table. Dog participated appropriately in the interaction and appeared comfortable with the other dog's gentle, dainty play style. Dog can become overwhelmed by some canine personalities; however, Dog and A821227 demonstrated appropriate canine communication and compatible play styles during this evaluation. Bexar and I went to Starbucks to grab a delicious pupcup, followed by a short walk at Grissom Trailhead and trip to Petsmart where he picked up a new toy! We then cooled off at my apartment where we played with that toy before going for a second short walk and then heading back to the shelter! How did your doggo walk on leash? Needs some work - nervous doggo. What is the best thing about your Shelter Paws doggo? He has so much energy and love to give! Friendly! What is something your Shelter Paws doggo could work on? Normal puppy behavior! He had an accident indoors. At PetSmart another dog came up behind us and started us which caused him to bark, but was still friendly!
