Barrel

Barrel is an adoptable male American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at San Antonio Animal Care Services in San Antonio, Texas. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Barrel, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

08/15/2026 Small Group Dog displayed sociability with handlers with a wagging tail and tense body and briefly holding 1 front paw up as he seemed nervous. He adjusted lowering his paw quickly, greeted other dogs, and was walked into the play yard. Dog displayed sociability with male and female dogs by co-existing with a wagging tail and loose body after adjusting. He was nervous of energetic dogs by moving away with tucked ears. He was most interested to solo sniff in the yard. He was easy to return to kennel. 08/15/2026 Dog displays sociability with handler by coming over to greet with a loose body and a wagging tail and is easy to leash and walk outside where he walks well on leash. He displays sociability with all handlers by coming over for treats and affection with a loose body and a wagging tail. He displays sociability with dogs at barrier by greeting appropriately with a loose body and a wagging tail. He is easy to return to kennel. 08/17/2026 Attempted co-house interactions with multiple dogs Jack Barrel displayed sociability by coming over for affection with a loose body and wagging tail. He displayed sociability with 2 other female dogs by co-existing and attempting to engage in gentle play. Other dogs did not reciprocate his interactions and he was able to respect their communication, create space and co-exist. He was easily returned to kennel. 08/18/2026 Play Group Jack Barrel displayed sociability by coming over for affection with a loose body and wagging tail. He displayed sociability with male and female dogs by co-existing and attempting to engage in gentle play. He was selected to co-house with Harley A821384 and they were returned to kennel together.
