Beneda

Beneda is an adoptable female German Shepherd looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. She is fully grown and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Beneda, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Located At: BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions Description: My name is Beneda (Deer). I am a female, brown German Shepherd Dog mix. Age: The shelter staff think I am about 6 years old. More Info: I have been at the shelter since Aug 07, 2026. I am in kennel SOUTHD30. Weight: 56 lbs Intake date: 8/7/2026 Beneda came into BARC with 7 other dogs. The person surrendering the dogs stated that the property owner's son went to jail and the dogs belonged to him, while the property owner is bedridden. Several of the puppies are still at BARC. Several are no longer at the shelter, and we do not know their status. ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES: Beneda is low heartworm positive. She arrived with dermatitis, thinning hair and hair loss on her ears and legs. Because several dogs from the same household tested positive for sarcoptic mange, possible sarcoptic mange was suspected. She received Advantage Multi with a repeat treatment recommended in 3'4 weeks. Beneda also developed CIRD/URI with coughing and nasal discharge. After completing 10 days of Doxycycline, she was still experiencing severe green nasal discharge and coughing on 8/27, so Doxycycline 250 mg once daily was extended for another 5 days. ⸻ 🐾BEHAVIOR NOTES: Despite everything Beneda has been through, staff consistently describe a calm, manageable girl who walks nicely on leash. She has repeatedly been easy to leash and walked on a loose leash with a relaxed or neutral body. More recently, Beneda greeted staff with a wiggly body, fast-wagging tail and adorable tappy front feet. In her kennel, she's often content to quietly rest on her bed.
