Fauna is an adoptable female Redbone Coonhound looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. She is still very young and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Fauna, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Located At: BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions Description: My name is Fauna. I am a female, brown Labrador Retriever mix. Age: The shelter staff think I am about 4 months old. More Info: I have been at the shelter since Aug 27, 2026. I am in kennel DD22. Weight: 14.2 lbs Intake date: 8/27/2026 ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES: Little Fauna arrived with both front wrists dropping toward the floor. Veterinary examination found no swelling or pain and diagnosed bilateral hyperextended carpus. The shelter veterinarian believes this is most likely related to imbalanced nutrition and growth. Recommendations include a commercially balanced puppy diet and controlled exercise on surfaces with good traction, such as carpet or grass, to help strengthen her supporting muscles. High-impact activities such as jumping should be avoided, as should strict crate confinement. She received DA2PP, Bordetella and Rabies vaccines, deworming, Pyrantel and Advantage Multi. ⸻ 🐾BEHAVIOR NOTES: Fauna was initially a little timid, but it didn't take much for this baby to come out of her shell! When staff began sweet-talking her, Fauna immediately became wiggly, started rapidly wagging her tail and gave hand kisses. She allowed staff to pick her up and move her while her kennel was cleaned with no issues at all.
