Quinton is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is fully grown and large in size. Intake Info: Quinton (A2342888) was picked up by our Animal Care and Control Officer in Riviera Beach. The source reported that he was growling and barking when approached. The officer had no issues placing Quinton in the truck, and he allowed handling with no negative behaviors observed by the officer. Medical: Quinton is estimated to be 6 years old and is already neutered. He has no microchip. He is heartworm negative and has hair loss on his tail and dermatitis. He is currently receiving treatment for FAS. Staff Notes: Quinton has shown concerning behavior with clinic staff, including vocalizing and growling in his kennel, showing his teeth, and growling loudly during attempts at a veterinary exam. He displayed whale eye, refused treats, and attempted to bite when staff tried to examine him. Volunteer Notes: Quinton may bark when approached in his kennel but is easily redirected with treats. Once outside, he allowed full-body petting, accepted treats, and was easy to leash and handle. He is steerable with the squirt bottle and had neutral gate greetings. Quinton has been friendly with other dogs but can become excited and attempt to hump during introductions. He responded well to corrections from other dogs. He knows sit and appears to be housebroken. Behavior Notes: Quinton has allowed several staff members and volunteers to walk him without issue. Outside of the clinic setting, he has allowed handling and petting throughout his body and head, as well as having a collar and leash placed on him. He appears to become more stressed in his kennel and during medical handling. Request to Rescues: Quinton is in urgent need of rescue due to stress and behavior concerns in the shelter environment. He would benefit from a rescue experience with behavior modification and Cooperative Care Training to help him become more comfortable and tolerant of medical handling. Quinton needs a patient, experienced rescue that can give him time to decompress, continue working with him, and help him find the right home where he can thrive.
