Ronnie
Pit Bull Terrier
Urgent: Last Day
Scheduled: September 5, 2026
Reason: Other
Ronnie is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is a young adult and large in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to other. Adopting Ronnie, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.
Intake Info: Ronnie (A2342128) was found by a Boynton Beach Officer. He was scanned for a microchip, but none was located. Our Animal Care and Control Officer observed Ronnie to be very overstimulated and frustrated, with jumping, vocalizing, and mouthing toward hands, but no bite occurred. Medical: Ronnie is 3 years old, neutered, and heartworm negative. He did well for processing, although his veterinary exam was limited due to his very high energy and difficulty with restraint. No obvious medical concerns were noted. He is HS-1 and has been started on FAS medication to help with his transition into the shelter environment. Volunteer Notes: Ronnie is rambunctious and energetic. He can be difficult to leash and return to his kennel and may bite at the leash when overstimulated. Outside, he enjoys sniffing, playing with toys, and fetch. He has worked on sit, down, impulse control, and loose-leash walking. With time and structure, he can settle and respond to guidance. Staff Notes: Ronnie greeted staff by licking their hand and initially had a loose body and allowed full-body petting. Once outside, he became fixated on getting further outdoors and began jumping and biting at the leash, but responded to verbal correction. He was non-reactive toward other dogs and did well with unleashing and processing. Behavior Notes: Ronnie becomes highly overstimulated with leashing, restraint, and attempts to enter or exit his kennel. When his stress is lower, he can focus and respond to high-value treats and training. When overwhelmed, he may stop responding to food and become mouthy, jump, or fixate on the leash. He has shown some response to redirection but has not been consistently responsive to correction tools. Ronnie has also participated in playgroups and engaged in push/pull play with other dogs. Request to Rescues: Ronnie is in need of a rescue able to work with his high energy, frustration, and impulse-control concerns. He needs a patient, experienced rescue where he can decompress and continue structured behavior work. When his stress is managed, Ronnie is able to focus, engage with people, and enjoy toys. Ronnie does have good social skills with other dogs and has potential to do well in the right environment with structure, patience, and continued training.
