Barney

Barney is an adoptable male Staffordshire Bull Terrier looking for a home at BARC Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Barney, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Located At: BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions Description: My name is Barney. I am a male, brown and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix. Age: The shelter staff think I am about 1 year and 1 month old. More Info: I have been at the shelter since Aug 30, 2026. I am in kennel DA21. Weight: 50 lbs Intake date: 8/30/2026 ⸻ 🩺 MEDICAL NOTES: Barney came in with puncture wounds to his right ear and a wound on his left shoulder. He is thin and tested LOW POSITIVE for heartworms. Meds: Clavamox 375 mg twice daily x14 days for his wounds Rimadyl/Carprofen 100 mg once daily x14 days for pain/inflammation DA2PP-V, Bordetella & Rabies vaccines given Dewormed and given preventatives ⸻ 🐾 BEHAVIOR NOTES: Barney has been observed lying quietly in his kennel with a semi-tense body. When handlers attempt to walk him, he hesitates, sits down or pulls backward. On 8/31, Barney became so frightened on leash that he pulled back and thrashed and ultimately had to be carried to another kennel. By 9/4, he was still hesitant, but staff were able to encourage him forward by walking behind him. Barney needs patience, decompression and someone willing to help him feel safe.
