Smooches is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is fully grown and medium in size. Smooches ACCT-A-259440 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Smooches must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH at 10AM. Should Smooches' medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Smooches came to ACCT Philly on August 23rd after she was found tied to a bench. While she has been understandably nervous at times in the shelter, she has shown that she can be a very sweet and gentle girl once she is given some time and space to settle in. Outside of her kennel, she enjoys running, rolling in the grass, and playing fetch, and she has been described as very calm and easy to walk. She is also incredibly tolerant of handling. Smooches can be anxious when returning to her kennel and may need some extra patience and encouragement during transitions, but she is making progress and has become more comfortable with her routine. Smooches would do best with someone who understands that she may need time to acclimate and build confidence in a new home. She is recommended for a home with children ages 12 and older. Due to her length of stay, Smooches is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or experienced adopter. Per volunteer 9/5: Very gentle, very calm, no jumping, goes absolutely straight, very slow runner (13 minute mile). Always wags her tail when he sees me but doesn't push to get out and goes straight back in now. Per volunteer 9/4: Perfect!! Per staff 9/3: High energy. No problems returning. Loves fetch and rolling in the grass. Per staff 9/1: High energy. Pulls a bit on leash. Loves to run and roll in yard. Fights to go back in. Per staff 8/28: High energy. Per staff 8/27: Medium energy. Did great on leash. Very chill outside. Per staff 8/26: Smooches was brought in for a vet exam from a dog meet with another staff member, she allowed us to swap leashes without issue. She had a low tail and neutral body with wide eyes once she had left and then greeted the doctors when talked to with soft voice and her tail loosened. For the physical she was very tolerant of all handling and had neutral body language and ears with wide eyes. I was able to bear hug her for her blood draw with no issue as I patted her as a distraction. For x ray she allowed another staff member and I to team lift her and she even allowed us to position her on her back and hold her paws. Per staff 8/26: Kennel Presentation: Laying on her bed trembling with wide eyes and ears back. Came forward when I talked to her with a low tail and took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Tried to push out of kennel when I first opened the door, backed up when I put my leash in and was easily leashed. Came right out once leashed and walked pulling mildly, ears back, eyes darting, tail low. Once outside, panting, ears back, looser body, wide soft eyes. Sociability: Came over when I called to her, rested her head on my knee, low tail wags, ears back, wide soft eyes. Tolerated all handling with a low tail, wide soft eyes, slightly tenser body, ears back. Remained with me when I stopped. Took a treat gently outside. Dog Interaction: Met Sasha A, sniffed and moving away on her own. Return to Kennel: Hesitated through the doorways on the way back, would turn around with a tucked tail and eyes darting, wen through the door ways with me stepping through first. Went to the exam room for an exam. Saw her on the way back, pancaked at the entrance to her row wide eyes darting, ears back, tail tucked. Her handler used cheese and she kept moving up until her kennel door where she pulled back on the leash. The second handler needed to lift her from behind and some leash pressure to enter kennel. The leash was clipped and was removed with the clip method. Color Level: Exp Blue Notes: Best suited for children 12+, adopters experienced with acclimating a fearful dog into the home. Summary of 8/25 tech exam: Walked up to kennel and she was sitting but panting extremely heavily and trembling all over. There was a large amount of vomit (food) in the kennel. She has moderate to severe 'kennel nose', with a few drips of blood on the floor. On a brief exam, her heart rate was elevated, she was slightly warm, and her gums were red. She was tolerant of all handling. Vomit was previously noted on 8/23. Unsure if the recurrent vomiting is from her being anxious or a medical issue. She seemed acutely and severely anxious this evening, and it is unclear if something set her off while on her walk. There are no previous memos addressing this issue. Prescribed behavior medications and moved her to a quieter room. A higher kennel door will also help with her kennel nose. Two hours later, she was definitely calmer than previously but got a little worked up again when the door was opened. She was no longer panting or trembling, and her gums were back to a normal pink color. More vomit (kibble) was found on her bedding, along with bloody smears as if she had tried to bury it. Per volunteer 8/25: Medium energy. Didn't take treats, came right up, easy to go out. Aloof and exit searching, but allowed pets. Put on brakes going back in and flailed when belly leashing and removal. Per staff 8/25: Medium energy. Treat motivated. Very anxious, go slow. When out she walked fine. Pulled when going back. Per staff 8/24, playgroup: Steer Test: 5/5 with water. Tail tucked, sat down, wide eyes, ears pinned back, gave Brindy a correction of an air snap when he ran up to him. With handlers low tail wags, eras back, looser body. MEDICAL NOTES: Smooches is currently being treated for an upper respiratory infection (URI) or \"doggy cold.\" URIs are contagious to other dogs, but not to people or other types of animals. - Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
