About Sabine

Sabine is an adoptable female Shiba Inu looking for a home at Palm Beach County Animal Care & Control in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a young adult and large in size. She is listed on the shelter's euthanasia list, listed due to other, and that date has now passed. Shelters often move these dates, so Sabine may still be waiting. The shelter can confirm.

Intake Info: Sabine, a beautiful young female Akita, was reportedly roaming loose in the Lake Worth beach area for about 3 days when an officer picked her up. She came to the shelter on 9/8 and sadly had no microchip for us to contact her owner. Medical: Super cooperative for her medical processing, she's an HS-1, unaltered female dog. Behaviors Observed: Sabine is unresponsive to handling tools and was brought in on a loose leash for her dog test. Her initial greeting with Draco was poor, characterized by growling and showing teeth. To avoid overwhelming Sabine, we utilized parallel walking, with another handler Draco, both on loose leashes. During subsequent greetings, Sabine remained stiff and clearly uncomfortable, though she did tolerate Draco's presence. She actively sought to avoid him; when they interacted in the yard, she maintained a stiff posture, looked away, and moved away as soon as possible. At no point were the leashes dropped. Due to these behaviors, Sabine will not be placed in playgroups, and no further dog tests will be conducted. Staff Notes: Sabine was on the far side of her kennel when staff went to visit with her. When the staff member crouched down and called her name, she came over right away to greet them. She was gentle and showed no negative behaviors. Request to Rescues: Sabine is a gorgeous young dog who needs urgent rescue due to her behavior with other dogs. Her dog test was not successful and so we're unable to let her join playgroups. She needs a rescue who can provide a safe environment for her as the only dog in the home, with someone who can cherish her and show her the love she deserves.
