This big, lovable boy is a sweet and affectionate guy who is happiest when he's spending time with his people'and preferably somewhere near a pool! Chapo has a playful, goofy side and absolutely LOVES splashing around in the water. He can be a little excitable and strong when he first gets going, but he has also shown us that he can settle into a calm, gentle giant who walks nicely on leash. He's been described as very sweet, affectionate, and even willing to try to curl up in your lap despite his size! Chapo is still working on some of his manners, including keeping all four paws on the floor and remembering that leashes are not chew toys. He can get overstimulated, especially when excited, so he'll benefit from a patient adult-only family who is ready to continue his basic training and help him learn appropriate indoor dog manners. He may have spent much of his life outdoors, so he'll need some guidance as he adjusts to life in a home. He's a strong boy, but with the right support, he's shown he can be a wonderful walking buddy. Chapo has shown interest in other dogs and can become very focused and excited when he sees them, so slow, thoughtful introductions will be important. Most importantly, Chapo is a big-hearted, affectionate dog who wants to be part of the action. Also didn't observe any leash biting. Per staff 8/23: Notes in dog intro: comes on strong and is fixated. Muzzle punched fence. During walk along was fixated, pulls hard. Sniffed( then began to reduce intensity and loosen up. Per staff 8/23: Kennel Presentation: loose and wiggly at the gate, moving a lot so slightly challenging to leash. Takes treats gently Leash Skills: pulls hard, will jump and leash bite as well. Not interest in peanut butter or a toy, likes hot dogs although doesn't hold his attention. double leashed due to leash biting and how big and strong he is Sociability: highly social sits at your feet. Tolerant and loose being touched all over. As I was sitting got overstimulated and began jumping on myself and the other handler, then began leash biting. Leash pressure relaxed him and he did not continue. Tail consistently low and middle wagging, big mouth panting, soft eyes, ears back. Play: no interest Dog Interaction: met a small dog through the fence- fixated, tense body. Return to Kennel: easy Color Level: blue- needs two handlers Recommendations and considerations: No pull harness. Basic training needed. Keep in mind he was likely partially or fully an outside dog, will need to learn indoor living expectations Per staff 8/23/26: having bloody stool, tried to get him out but he was jumping up on both nurses and being mouthy. Both nurses went together to try to get him out but felt unsafe due to the behavior. Per staff 8/21/26: Loose, relaxed body language, likes to jump up, leash bit for a few seconds but stopped when told to. Moderate pulling on leash. Allowed me to lift onto truck.
