Sky

Sky is an adoptable male American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at San Antonio Animal Care Services in San Antonio, Texas. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Sky, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Evaluation Notes: 09/09/2026 - Upon approach, dog displays sociability with handler by coming over to greet at barrier with a tense body, wide eyes and a low wagging tail. As handler enters kennel, she retreats into corner of kennel with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail. She is easy to leash where she urinates with same body language. Leash is easy to remove and she is given space. Upon re-approach dog displays sociability with me by greeting me at barrier with a tense body, wide eyes, low head, pinned ears and a low tail where she is not interested in treats offered by hand. She retreats as I enter kennel with same body language. She is easy to leash and walks well out of kennel where she is seemingly stressed as she sees nearby dogs. She rushes to the end of leash with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail. She is easy to walk on leash where she walks well as I walk behind her and pulls at end of leash seemingly in fear. In yard she is interested to walk around and sniff in grass independently. She displays sociability with dogs at barrier by greeting appropriately with a tense body and a low wagging tail. She initially displays sociability with other handler by coming over to greet with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a low tail. As handler attempts to pet dog, she retreats while barking with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail while distributing body weight defensively. She is seemingly fearful of handler interaction by maintaining space from handler with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail. She displays reactivity toward handler by barking with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail while distributing body weight defensively as handler approaches her. I enter yard to assist and dog retreats away from me while displaying reactivity toward me by barking at me with same body language as I approach her. She jumps up onto barrier seemingly in attempt in jump and/or scale barrier with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail as I approach her. I am able to secure her leash and she is returned to kennel where she pulls heavily on leash seemingly in fear. She walks into kennel easily and leash is easy to remove.
