A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.' Camden was already in the yard when the handler decided to begin the handling assessment. He was moved to side yard, and given a few moments to decompress before the handler entered the yard. He approached the handler with a relaxed body, soft eyes, and a loose tail wag. He allowed the handler to pet his whole body. He became a bit mouthy when the handler touched his tail but was easy to correct with a verbal correction. When the assessment was over, he began to jump on the handler excitedly, and followed the handler to solicit petting. When he was returned to his kennel, he required firm handling to walk without flailing and biting the leash.
