Big Red is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Big Red, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Big Red ACCT-A-260114 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Big Red must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH at 10AM. Should Big Red's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Big Red is a 5-year-old tan mixed breed who was found by PSPCA staff and transported to ACCT on August 28th.Since arriving, Big Red has shown staff and volunteers his social, playful side. He has been described as a \"social butterfly,\" a \"very happy boy,\" an \"excellent walking buddy,\" and a \"goofy\" guy. He loves tennis balls and fetch, knows sit for treats, and enjoys affection. During his behavior evaluation, he rubbed his body against his handlers' legs, took treats gently, and showed a loose body and soft eyes. Big Red can be strong on leash, but walk-sheet notes also say he gets into a good walking rhythm. Because he likes to lean into people and may knock smaller children over, kids 5+ were recommended. Big Red has participated in multiple dog meets and playgroups. On August 29th, he met Elf with a loose, wiggly body, moved away when growled at, and was tolerant of sniffing. In subsequent playgroups, he demonstrated good gate greetings and was able to mingle and move away on his own. During playgroup on September 11th, Big Red offered play bows, showed a loose body and bouncy movements, and disengaged independently while interacting with Amaya. When Smooches entered, Big Red approached to greet and put his head over her; Smooches over-corrected, leading to a scuffle. Staff separated the dogs, and neither dog was injured.' Big Red has spent his time at the shelter showing off his playful, affectionate personality, whether he's chasing his beloved tennis balls, enjoying time with his handlers, or heading out for a walk. This strong, social boy is ready for a chance to leave shelter life behind and have a place of his own. Rubbing his body all over my legs as i was sitting down, his skin is dry and flaky. Ears back, gentle panting, soft eyes and loose body. Loose, wiggly, moved away when growled at, sniffed and tolerant of being sniffed.
