Hello, my name is Bearstein . My animal id is #256919. I am a male brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 3 months 1 weeks old. I came into the shelter as a agency on 6/11/2026. Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only. Bearstein is at risk due to behavioral concerns. In the care center, he has demonstrated reactivity toward other dogs, including pulling strongly toward them, becoming tense, and vocalizing, with limited ability to be redirected once aroused. During his Straycation, Bearstein was reported to charge and bark at individuals who approached his preferred person. He also exhibited signs of separation related distress, such as persistent vocalizing and scratching or biting at barriers and doors when separated from people. According to his Borough Breakers report, Bearstein is an energetic, sensitive, and curious dog. In the care center, he is noted to seek out human interaction, leaning into petting and actively soliciting attention from handlers. Medically, Bearstein is Apparently Healthy. Bearstein is at risk for behavioral reasons. Bearstein has been observed to be dog and kennel reactive. He has been noted to push off the walls upon exiting the kennel, lunging towards passing kennels. On walks, it has been reported that Bearstein stares towards dogs with a stiff body and is unable to be redirected. With handlers, Bearstein allows petting and will lean into handler's legs with a soft body and wagging tail. Medically, Bearstein is apparently healthy. Meet Bearstein! Bearstein was found tied up on the street and is now looking for a patient adopter who can show him that the world can be a safe place. While he's understandably cautious in new situations, this gentle boy has already started making steady progress and is slowly learning to trust the people around him. My Ideal Home Bearstein would do best in a quiet, predictable home with someone who understands that trust takes time. He'll thrive with gentle encouragement, a consistent routine, and positive reinforcement as he continues to build confidence. Letting him move at his own pace will help him settle in and truly shine. Good with Other Pets? Although his history with other dogs is unknown, Bearstein has shown promising social skills at the shelter. He has enjoyed relaxed greetings, engaged in playful interactions with another dog, and has generally ignored dogs while out on walks. As always, slow introductions to resident pets are recommended. Good with Kids? Due to his fearful nature and need for a calm environment, ACC recommends an adult only home. Things to Know Bearstein can be shy around new people and may retreat or become uncertain when approached too quickly. He's made wonderful progress during his time at the shelter, now walking beautifully on a loose leash, calmly passing people and dogs, and allowing gentle handling with patient, low-pressure interactions. He'll do best with an adopter who understands that confidence is built one positive experience at a time and is willing to let him come out of his shell at his own pace. Bearstein is on the at-risk list for medical concerns. Bearstein is being treated for CIRDC which is developing into pneumonia. He is consistently coughing, lethargic, and not eating. Bearstein has been fearful and reserved in care. With a slow approach he has allowed handling. Before becoming sick Bearstein particapted in playgroup and was slowly soliciting attention from staff.
