Bluey

Bluey is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at NYC ACC-Queens in Ridgewood, New York. He is a young adult and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to behavior. Adopting Bluey, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

In the care center, Bluey has shown significant kennel stress and high arousal, including jumping and hard barking at the kennel door, kennel fighting, grabbing and biting leashes, and pulling toward other kennels. Once out of the kennel, he can remain highly aroused, running frenetically, jumping on handlers, and struggling to settle. Bluey is able to engage in training and has responded to pattern games and basic cues with handlers but is struggling in the care center to manage on his own. Medically, Bluey is apparently healthy. Bluey initially entered the Care Center in June 2026, and was returned by his adopter in September 2026. During both stays, he has shown a low threshold for arousal, displaying leash biting and kennel fighting when moving in and out of his kennel. His adopter also reported on-leash reactivity to dogs and vehicles. He has shown social behavior with staff, leaning in to handling with a loose body, though will also jump up in a social manner. Due to the behaviors observed during both stays, we recommend that Bluey be placed in an adult-only home through a New Hope partner, who can provide positive reinforcement-based, force-free behavior modification. Meet Bluey! Bluey arrived at the shelter as a stray, so while we don't know much about his past, we do know one thing for sure: this sweet boy loves making connections with people! Bluey is a social, affectionate pup who happily leans into pets and is always ready to spend time with his favorite humans. Now he's looking for a family who can help him continue learning and growing. He is a smart and eager-to-learn pup who will benefit from positive reinforcement training, daily exercise, and enrichment activities that help him channel his enthusiasm in fun ways. With a little guidance, Bluey is ready to become your best adventure buddy. Good with Other Pets? Bluey's history with other animals is unknown, but he has shown interest in meeting other dogs while at the shelter. He has had some appropriate greetings with other dogs, though he can become tense when seeing dogs while on leash. Slow introductions and continued positive reinforcement training will help him feel comfortable and successful around canine friends. Good with Kids? Due to Bluey's energetic play style and leash-related behaviors, an adult-only home is recommended at this time. He would do best with people who can help him practice polite greetings and build confidence through training. Things to Know Bluey is a happy, people-loving pup who can get a little excited when greeting his favorite humans. He may jump up when seeking attention and has been known to grab the leash when overstimulated, so continued practice with calm walking and impulse control will help him succeed.
