Mater is an adoptable female Lancashire Heeler looking for a home at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control - West in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a young adult and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to behavior. Adopting Mater, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Placement with a New Hope Partner is needed by close of business 9/29/26 to allow for full behavioral evaluation, appropriate management, and post-placement support. May be at risk for euthanasia 9/30/26 or sooner if warranted. Intake 9/24/2026 Per activity notes: Complainant stated there were a heeler and 2 smaller dogs. The complainant stated the dog has been in increasing problem over the last month. The dogs comes and goes but no one in the area claims him. They have people coming into his business at all hours to pick up cars and this moring the dog bit two people. Two seperate people stated the dog went after them. The complainant can't take the chance of the dog injuring someone else. The complainant doesn't know if any skin was broken during the attack. Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers) 9/24/2026 Greeted handler with soft wiggly body, wagging nub, jumping up onto kennel door for attentions. Easy leash placement at front of kennel, exited with some pulling, soft neutral body to main play yard. Once in yard dog had high energy throughout, wiggly soft body, soliciting attentions throughout evaluation allowing petting all over. Some rough play towards handler, mouthy towards handlers arm/hand at times when jumping up for attentions, runs into handler for attentions before leaning in/melting into handler, easy to direct away with treats, accepted treats gently. Took high interest in tennis balls in yard, will fetch and retrieve ball, allowed handler to reach for ball with no issues. Easy return to kennel, wiggly body, sniffed dogs in passing with neutral soft body.
