Mandy

Mandy is an adoptable female American Staffordshire Terrier looking for a home at San Antonio Animal Care Services in San Antonio, Texas. She is a young adult and medium in size. She is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list and today is the last day, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Mandy, or even sharing her story, could save a life before it's too late.

Evaluation Notes: 09/24/2026 - Dog is reactive upon approach by growling and barking with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail. She displays sociability with me by coming over to greet with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a low wagging tail where she is interested in treats offered by hand. She retreats as I enter kennel with same body language. She is fearful of leash by retreating and fidgeting in kennel while low growling and barking and leash. She is interested in continued treats offered to her on ground and takes wet food from hand. She continues to retreat from leash with same body language as before. She displays sociability with primary handlers by coming over greet with a loose, wiggly body and a low wagging tail where she allows primary handlers to leash her. She is easy to walk out of kennel where she flails on leash and attempts to hide under fixtures nearby with a tense body, wide eyes, pinned ears and a tucked tail. She is returned to kennel. Primary handling staff report sociability where dog enjoys play with toys. She has been leashed and walked outside previously with use of toys.
