About Trey

Trey is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 3 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Trey, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Trey ACCT-A-260804 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Trey must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by Sunday, October 4th 2026 at 10AM. Should Trey's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Trey! Trey is a sweet, gentle boy with a soft heart and a playful side! This handsome guy has been described as one of the sweetest dogs around, and he loves spending time with his people. He enjoys getting body pets and has a wonderfully food-motivated personality, making treats a great way to build a connection with him and help him feel comfortable. He knows 'sit' and is eager to learn when there are tasty rewards involved! Trey enjoys getting outside and exploring at his own pace. He has shown that he can be a nice, easygoing walking buddy, although he can pull when he gets excited and will benefit from continuing to work on his leash skills. He also has a playful side and enjoys tug-of-war and chewing on toys. Depending on the day, he can range from low energy and laid-back to high energy and ready to play, so he can appreciate both relaxing with his people and getting out for some fun. Trey can be a little shy and sensitive, especially with handling around his face and head. He does best when people take things slowly and give him time to feel comfortable. With patience, gentle movements, and plenty of positive reinforcement, he has shown that he can warm up and allow more handling. He may not always be the first dog to ask for attention, but once he feels comfortable, his sweet personality really shines. Trey has also met other dogs and has had some positive interactions, including a good greeting with another dog. He can be timid and uncomfortable during some dog interactions, so any introductions should be handled thoughtfully and at his pace. If you're looking for a sweet, food-loving companion who has a playful side and would love to build a trusting relationship with his person, Trey could be the perfect match. Give this handsome boy a little patience, some tasty treats, and plenty of time to get comfortable, and you may just discover what a special guy he is. Come meet Trey! He politely walked through the rows of kennels and waited at the back door. Outside he enthusiastically pulled me to the street, but after just a moment he was easy to walk. Trey enjoys walking and he is a star runner on the ACCT Philly running team! Per volunteer 9/10: Kennel Presentation: Curled up on his bed when I approached. When I came to the door, he sat up and walked to the front of the kennel slowly with a neutral body, soft eyes, neutral ears, and relaxed, closed mouth. He took a treat gently through the door. Leash Skills: When I opened the door and showed the leash, he backed up slightly and spun in circles a few times before stepping forward and allowing me to secure him easily. Hopped out of the kennel and pulled moderately to get outside. Sociability: Relatively aloof in the yard, preferring to sniff around on his own. He was very food motivated and snatchy with treats and will jump high to get them, so tossing treats was the best method. Flinchy and avoidant with overhead and face handling, tolerated all body handling. When I tried consent petting, he allowed it then stood still and eventually moved away when I stopped without soliciting more. After several minutes and with very slow movements and treat incentives, he allowed me to gently pet his face and on top of his head. Play: No interest in toys Dog Interaction: N/A Return to Kennel: Walked slowly back inside and returned to his kennel easily. I removed the leash with clip method to avoid reaching overhead Color Level: Exp gold Recommendations and considerations: Go slow and avoid overhead movements, toss treats rather than giving from hand. Per staff 9/9: Trey had soft eyes and loose body language in the kennel and came right out for a treat and took it gently. Brought him into the grooming room and he wasn't liking being hugged and started bucking and throwing his body away from us, tried treat but not wasn't taking them and we decided to attempt again later Per staff 9/9: Was asked to help get a PCR on Trey. He was at the front of his kennel soft eyes, ears to the side, low tail wags. Took a treat through the bars. Easily leashed and came right out. Pulled moderately on leash. In the room allowed all handling with ears to the side, low tail, loose body. We put some hot dog pieces on the swab and was able to his mouth swabs done. Had the same body language thought the time. Walked back pulling moderately, hopped right into his kennel. Per staff 9/7 (Regarding meet with Rainbow): Good greetings. Sniffed and able to be sniffed. Handler oriented Playgroup 9/6: Steer test 4/5 with water and 0/5 with can. Ears back with mid tail. Moving away. Lip raising and barking when dogs were coming up to him. Removed from the yard. Playgroup 9/4: Steerable with spray bottle (3/5) and shake can (1/5). Gate greetings: timid, ears back, low tail. In yard: Handler-oriented, timid near other dogs. Shuffled away from greets with tucked tail, ears back, hunched posture. Avoidant. Per finder 9/4: Trey's finder described him as curious, excited, friendly, cuddly, and playful.
