Cedric is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. His finder found him on a solo adventure in West Philly, and while Cedric was described as a little nervous, he allowed the kind stranger to clip a leash on him, and lift him into their car. Since arriving at the shelter, Cedric has charmed literally everyone that he meets. His excitement for new friends, new toys, and new snacks sometimes gets the better of him, and he's known to be a little strong on the leash, and a little needy with treats. However, he already knows how to sit for treats and play fetch, so we think his enthusiasm for physical activity and passion for snackin' will make training and enrichment a blast for everyone.' With other dogs, Cedric can be a little intimidating, and he comes in a little hot.'We think that Cedric would do best in a home where he is the only dog, or in a home where proper decompression can be facilitated before slow introductions begin. We think the mystery of another dog--wanting to frolic and not being able to--increases Cedric's frustration. He has more than enough love to give, however, so he would have no complaints about being the center of attention.' He accepted pets and would get excited and jumpy Needed a little help going back into kennel ( needed to take a step in or toss a treat in) He will jump up for treats and may grab your hand, very excited. Same with toys. Really has a lot of energy and it comes out on handlers at times Per staff 9/27: Witnessed Cedric in the yard with two volunteers being very jumpy and snatchy with treats. Volunteer will be sending in more detailed notes, bumping up to blue Playgroup notes 9/20 Steer Test: 3-4/5 with water and 1/5 with can. Running along the fence barking and jumping with a loose body. Pushy rough and rowdy play in the yard. Started to mount the other dog. Playgroup 9/7 Steer test 2-3/5 with water and 1/5 with can. Mid tail, ears to the side and loose/wiggly at the fence greeting. Overly pushy play, not taking corrections. 9/9 per Volunteer Cedric enjoys his toys and can easily entertain himself with them in the yard. He seems to know sit and is still learning his manners when taking treats. He has medium energy, had two positive fence meets with other dogs. His ears look like they are healing well! 9/7 per Volunteer Cedric was medium- high energy but settled after being out a few minutes. He loves treats and loves playing with the squeaker toy. Although his ears looked like they were irritated, it didn't seem to bother him. He was very playful! 9/6 Playgroup Steer test 3/5 with water and 1/5 with can. Good greetings at the gate with mid tail, ears to the side and pawing at the door. Forward greeting, overly pushy and not taking corrections. Staff separated and he was removed from the yard. 9/4 per Staff Easy to leash, came right to the front. Pulled Mildly. Yes, I handled the dog. Loose wiggly and bouncy energy, easy to handle however easily overstimulated (in a BIG puppy energy type of way - muzzle punching, excessive tail wagging, super jumpy) so I did not pet him too much or give him much attention as I didn't feel confident that it wouldn't escalate. Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue. A little mouthy with treat pouch and snatchy with food. 9/3 Cedric and Sunshine meet - Forward greeting. Loose body, mid tail, ears for the side. Able to disengage when called by handler. 9/3'Staff Behavior Evaluation: Kennel Presentation: Laying on the bed when I approached his kennel. Wide eyes, ears to the side. I spoke softly and he began to get up with a low fluttering tail. Leash Skills: Treat lure to Leash. He is snatchy so best to put it on the ground. He came out of kennel slowly. Mildly pulled on the leash. Sociability: Leaned into all handling with a loose body, soft eyes, opened relaxed mouth and ears to the side. Brought him to the exam room to have the wounds on his ears checked out. He let the doctor check him out being distracted by food. Can be jumpy and he is a big dog. Play: Picked up a toy and carried it around the yard. Dog Interaction: met Sunshine. Pulled towards her, forward greetings. Loose and wiggly. Will disengaged if handler called him. Return to Kennel: Went right into kennel and removed leash with hand. - Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
