Rain is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 2 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Rain, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Rain ACCT-A-170567 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Rain must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th by 10:00 am. Should Rain's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. This VERY excited and playful boy is looking for an active partner to share adventures with! Rain was initially found as a stray experiencing heat stress and was thankfully brought into the cool shelter. He was adopted in August 2024 but unfortunately returned to the shelter in August 2026. Throughout his shelter stays, Rain has shown us what a friendly, energetic, and playful boy he can be. Rain loves to romp, run, and explore! He especially enjoys getting outside for sniffaris through the grass and having room to stretch his legs. He is treat motivated and has enjoyed playing in the yard, running after tennis balls, and exploring. His recent walks have shown some improvement, with several notes describing him as well behaved, good on leash, and comfortable taking treats and pets. While at the shelter, he's had several dog interactions and has shown to be selective/reactive to other dogs. During doggie playgroup, Rain enjoyed sniffing around and hanging out by himself. He did have a negative interaction with another dog in playgroup that resulted in him being removed from the yard after another dog became pushy towards him. Rain is looking for a home that can provide him with routine, positive reinforcement, and plenty of appropriate outlets for his energy while he decompresses and puts his best paw forward. Due to noted leash biting and energetic jumping, an adult-only home or a home with children 12+ would be the best fit. An active household that enjoys getting outside and going on adventures would be a great match for this exuberant boy. Moderate issues going in kennel, on leash & mouthing. High energy. Had a negative dog meet. Will jump a lot & rip your clothes. No problem returning to kennel 9/3 - Medium-High energy. No leash biting 9/5 - Medium energy. Very well behaved, no leash biting. Good & strong walker. Takes treats nicely. Loose wagging tail, allows all pets 9/9 - Medium energy. Very good boy, no jumping, just a slow medium runner or walker. Saw a squirrel and had zero reaction 9/12 - Medium energy. So sweet. Happy to explore & sniff 9/15 - Medium energy. Good on walk and on leash 9/21 - Medium energy. Good on walk and on leash On 9/24 per staff: Was called into meet and greet room - observed dog jumping on him intensely. Walked in and grabbed dogs leash - at that point they had started to play with a toy. They began to jump on me with dilated pupils, so I short armed him and walked him to the kennel. He walked well. We stopped at the treat station and I was able to grab a bag of treats. When walking down C Row he began to fence fight, but I threw a treat down and he moved along. Using treats in the kennel I was able to ask for a sit and remove the leash. Rain's eyes were red and dilated and body neutral throughout the interaction. On 9/20 per volunteer: This guy is always so excited to see me and was jumping up on his kennel when I approached! Went for a quick outing where he loved to run around the play yard and run after tennis balls. Some jumping on me today, however it was better than other days and he took pets from me all over. We went to the photo shoot where he let us put a tuxedo top and hat on him like an absolute cutie, and he sat very nicely for his photo. When he had to wait too long for the treat, he gave a couple of soft barks and a whine just to remind us that he was there and needed some attention. Did fine going back into kennel with no leash biting even though it's noted on his kennel. I will say I haven't seen this behavior in the three or four times I've had him out. Such an excited exuberant boy! On 9/12 per staff: Lunging and hard barking at people walking past his kennel. On 9/9 per staff: Lunging and hard barking at the kennel door when dogs are walking past. He is the first kennel so a lot of activity goes past him On 8/30 per staff: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail. Leash Skills: Tossed treats towards the back of the kennel since he was right at the front. Easy to leash and came right out of the kennel. Sociability: Tolerant of handling however did not solicit for more. Only interested in interacting with the dog. Food motivated Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Nova. Pulled hard towards her. Overly interested in sniffing her hind end and attempted to hump. Able to move away when I called him and gave him a treat Return to Kennel: Due to a note on his kennel that he leash bites on return, I used caution and had treats ready along with the clip on. He did not leash bite and went right into kennel. Went to the back looking for treats, I called his name and was able to slip leash off. Color Level: Blue On 8/30 per staff: Playgroup Notes - Steer test 2/5 with water and 0/5 with can. Mid tail, ears back at gate greetings with some vocalization. Rushed entry, sniffing and was able to move away. However when Big red entered the yard Ravioli became pushy towards him. Rain then ran over getting on top of Ravioli resulting in a fight. On 8/30 per staff: Took out rain almost 2 years ago to the day so I had to take him out again when I saw him! He greeted me with a super wiggly body jumping up on the door. He was trying to push out of the kennel however I was easily able to leash him so I had a good hold on him when he jumped out. In the play yard, he sniffed around and seems very treat motivated. He went into playgroup from here and seemed to be dog friendly but I didn't stay to watch. Notes from previous stay in 2024: On 8/5/24 per volunteer: Rain was very easy to leash even though he was super excited to see us! He's super treat motivated, loves treats and will follow them anywhere! he went up and over the A frame multiple times for the treats. Sometimes he snatched them a bit when he was excited. He LOVED the water and the pool, he kept going in there voluntarily and when I was filling the pool up he got under the flow of the hose and took a little bath time. He jumped up a lot for attention, super affectionate. He loves to explore and climb on things. he has some puppy energy! He enjoyed chasing toys and romping around the play yard. On 8/3/24 per staff: Adult only home preferred due to arousal and snatching, 12+ On 8/3/24 per staff: BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: KNOWN HISTORY: Stray KENNEL PRESENTATION: In kennel Rain was by the door and jumped up when he saw me. He pawed at the door excitedly with soft eyes and a wagging tail. He tried to push out when I opened the door but I kept him contained. I leashed him easily and he came right out. LEASH SKILLS: Pulled moderately HANDLING: In the room Rain was pretty aroused. He cried and jumped on me and tried to counter surf for treats. He's very treat motivated, but very snatchy, so use an open palm for him. He came running when called and allowed all handling right away, but was just very aroused throughout. He would jump constantly, even when after I pushed him away multiple times, and began mouthing after several minutes. Another staff member entered the room and Rain greeted them by jumping on them and panting in their face. He allowed them to give him pets and push him down, but he was still so aroused. I tried ignoring him and bringing my own energy down, to see if he would self regulate. Unfortunately, this made him more frustrated and stressed, and he would pant harder and begin to face kiss out of stress. I stood up and turned away, and I could hear his panting softening, so with time and some training, I think he could get his arousal under control. PLAY: Very aroused, gets jumpy and mouthy and is not gentle about it.
