Melo is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Melo, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Should Melo's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Melo! Melo is a sweet, squishy, playful guy with a whole lot of personality! This affectionate boy loves getting pets and ear rubs, and he has even been known to happily climb into a lap for some extra snuggles. He's also a BIG fan of treats and will gladly work for snacks, making him a fun and eager companion for training. Melo is a high-energy, playful pup who loves getting outside and having a good time. His absolute favorite activity might be playing ball, and he has some seriously impressive zoomies! He enjoys exploring, sniffing around, and being part of whatever fun is happening. He can be enthusiastic on leash and has some strength behind him, especially when he spots something exciting, so he'll do best with someone who is comfortable with an energetic dog and is ready to help him continue working on his leash skills. Melo has had several positive interactions with other dogs and has participated in playgroup with good greetings and appropriate mingling. He can get very excited when he sees another dog and may need some help redirecting his attention, but he has shown that he can interact appropriately and move away when needed. Slow, thoughtful introductions would be recommended for any potential canine siblings. With his goofy puppy-like energy, love of treats, affection for his people, and serious passion for a good game of fetch, Melo is a fun-loving guy who is sure to keep you smiling. More mingled around the yard. Per volunteer 9/7: Melo was very sweet, he wanted lots of pets. He was easy to walk. He had 2 good fence meets. One I know was with Starlight. Very good boy! Per volunteer 9/7/26: Kennel Presentation: Met me at the front of his kennel w a loose, wiggly body, soft eyes, ears back, a slightly open, relaxed mouth, and mid level tail wags. Took a hot dog gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Sat still and allowed me to leash him easily. Moderate to strong pulling on leash, peed and pooped quickly outside. Very jumpy on leash for treats, never exhibited leash biting. Somewhat deterrable with walking/keeping it moving, easily deterred with a treat scatter. Sociability: Social and wiggly, enjoyed lots of pets. He was high energy (had been on surgery rest for several days) and pulled on leash to sniff around and looking to play. He loved treats and took them nicely from an open palm. In the volunteer office, he was social with other people, soliciting treats and attention. Enjoyed disposable enrichment Play: No interest Dog Interaction: Quick sniffs w a rottie who was in playgroup through the fence. Melo had a loose body and mid to high tail wags, some appeasement licks through the fence. Return to Kennel: Walked right in, no issues. Removed leash w clip method Color Level: Exp gold Per staff 9/3/26 (Regarding meet Bobby): Good greetings. Tolerant. Disengaged Playgroup 9/3/26: Steer test 3/5 with water and 0-1 with can mid to high tail and ears to the side, loose and wiggly at fence greetings. Appropriate greetings, mingled around the yard. Per staff 9/3/26 (Regarding meet with Bug Bubba): Pulled hard towards Bigbubba. High tail, hackles raised. Sniffed and was able to be sniffed. Put front paws on bigbubbas shoulders. Able to move away and then pulled hard towards Bigbubba again. Per staff 9/2/26: Notes from dog meet with Jade: Melo pulled strong towards Jade and came on strong. His hackles were raised as they sniffed faces and he gave some lip licks. As he tried to sniff towards Jade's rear end, she kept turning to keep things face to face. Jade eventually disengaged, and Melo continued to pull towards her. Would benefit from further interactions with dogs for a better assessment. It was raining so we kept the meet short Per staff 9/2/26: puppy like energy, jumped onto APO and myself upon meeting. Peed when he curled into APO's lap and received pets. Allowed petting and being picked up to get put into van. ' Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
