Tank

Tank is an adoptable male Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is fully grown and medium in size. He is currently on the shelter's euthanasia list with only 4 days left, listed due to lack of space. Adopting Tank, or even sharing his story, could save a life before it's too late.

Tank ACCT-A-260152 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Tank is a 6-year-old mixed-breed boy who came to the shelter after his family of 5 years losing their home to a house fire. His former owner described him as friendly for the most part, fully housebroken, crate trained, and medium energy. They shared that Tank knows 'sit,' 'go to the bathroom,' 'speak,' and 'paw,' and loves all kinds of toys and treats. His owner let us know that he has not been around cats, and was okay with some dogs. At the shelter, Tank has shown to be selective/reactive towards other dogs. He's had several neutral and good dog meets, including appropriate greetings where he sniffed and then chose to move away on his own. He has also participated in playgroup with other dogs. During one playgroup, he appropriately corrected a dog who attempted to hump him, although he over-corrected when another dog approached. His greetings have sometimes been tense, and selective toward other dogs. Tank has also shown plenty of sweet moments with people. He has been observed sitting patiently at the front of his kennel, accepting treats, giving a perfect sit without being asked, leaning into petting, and enjoying walks and toys. He loves squeaky toys and has been described by volunteers as a sweet boy. When excited, he can pull on leash and may be strong, and he can become overstimulated during handling, so he will need a home that will pay attention to his body language and give him appropriate space. This sweet boy wants nothing more than a home to provide him with structure, patience, and thoughtful management while getting to know him. Due to some overstimulation during handling, he is seeking a home without children. With the right person by his side, Tank can continue to show just how sweet, playful, and loving he can be. Chomping on grass outside. Gentle w/ treats 9/16 - Medium energy. Sweet & good on walk and on leash 9/18 - Medium energy. Knows sit, plays w/ toys. Sits very still when ou pet him 9/22 - Mild issues on leash & high energy. Strong & pulls when excited. Nice dog On 9/27 per staff: Stopped by Tank's kennel and he was sitting patiently at the front amongst other neighboring dogs barking. He was a sweet gentleman when taking treats. When tossing treats into his kennel he bounced towards them playfully and with soft loose tail wags. Came back to the front and gave a perfect sit without being told. Such a sweet boy! On 9/23 per staff: When approaching for PCRs pt had pink eyes. Was walking up to me and handler pacing. Offered treats and pt caught them when I threw them in the air. Allowed me to pet on head and body. Told handler to bear hug due to pt seeming overstimulated. I got an eye swab with no issue, when going for a nose swab pt started trying to snap and grabbed the swab from me. Alerted handler to be careful when releasing. When pt was released from bear hug, he dropped the swab and redirected on handler and lunged/jumped while trying to snap. Was returned to his kennel immediately after. On 9/2 per staff: (Regarding meet with Baby Dinosaur) Tense greetings with high tail, ears to the side. Was able to sniff and be sniffed then moved away on his own. On 9/1 per staff: Kennel Presentation: At the front of kennel with soft eyes, ears to the side, open relaxed mouth and mid tail slowly wagging. Leash Skills: I tossed a treat towards the back since he was right at the front of the kennel. There was also notes on his walk sheet that he tries to push hard past the door. Once leashed he came right out of kennel. Mildly pulled on leash. Sociability: He leaned into all handling with soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail. He was shedding when I was petting him, which is a sign of FAS. Very snatchy with treats even with an open palm I felt his teeth pinch my skin. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Baby Dino. Good fence greetings with high tail. Greeted and then moved away on his own. Return to Kennel: Went right into kennel and removed leash with hand. Color Level: Blue On 9/1 per staff: Playgroup Notes - Steer test 2/5 with water and 1/5 with can. ears to the side, wide eyes and mid tail at fence greetings. nose to the ground, moving away. Appropriately Corrected when Doman attempted to hump, however when Ramsey came up to greet Tank over corrected. Owner Notes: Tank is fully housebroken and crate trained. He loves any treat and toy. Tank is a medium energy dog who knows Sit, Go to bathroom, Speak & Paw. He is an indoor dog. Towards strangers he is mostly friendly. Tank is great towards children. He's never been around cats.
