Marceline

Marceline is an adoptable female Pit Bull Terrier looking for a home at Philadelphia Animal Care and Control in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is senior and medium in size. Marceline is an approximately 7-year-old female mixed breed dog who came to ACCT Philly on September 5 after being found as a stray. Her finder believed she was lost and described her as friendly and good around strangers, animals, or children. Since arriving at the shelter, Marceline has shown staff and volunteers a gentle, treat-motivated side. She has been easy to leash on multiple occasions, has walked nicely for handlers, takes treats gently, and has allowed handling and affection. She appears to know sit and has shown interest in toys, including fetch. Marceline has also participated in playgroup. She has displayed loose, social behavior with some dogs, while other interactions have included stiffness and an air snap, so her individual dog interactions van vary. Marceline has so many wonderful qualities that have continued to shine through during her time at the shelter. She has been described as sweet, gentle, intelligent, and very treat motivated, taking treats softly from her handlers. She appears to know 'sit,' has shown off her smarts by following treats up and over the A-frame, and has been easy to handle and affectionate with people. Volunteers have noted that she can walk nicely on leash and has been easy to get in and out of her kennel. Marceline also has a playful side'she loves to fetch and has enjoyed chasing a big rubber squeaky ball. Whether she's showing off her skills, enjoying a toy, or calmly spending time with her handler, Marceline has shown that she has plenty of endearing qualities to offer. Per staff 9/11 re: playgroup: Steer test 2-3/5 with water and 0/5 with can. Ears back, high tail at gate greetings. Good greetings, spin moves. Stiff greetings with female dog in the yard and then air snapped toward her even though she was moving away. Per volunteer 9/11: She greeted me with a loose body, and I very easily leashed her on the first try. She walked really nicely on leash without much pulling and is in tune with her handlers leash pressure. Immediately went to the bathroom when we got outside. Super treat motivated! She also seems very intelligent. She showed me that she knows sit and she also went up and over the A-frame following the treats that I was putting down. Really loves pepperoni and texting very gently out of your hands. Very very gentle with handling and took pets from me all over. She peed probably 20 times while we were out there so leaving a medical slip. Very easy girl to have out and went back into her kennel very easily. Playgroup 9/10: Steerable 1-2/5 with water and 3-4/5 with can. Good greetings, mingling around the yard. Tried to get Starlight to play with a loose body, helicopter tail doing some bouncy moves. Starlight bumped into her and she did a small vocalization before moving away with he same loose bouncy body language. Per staff 9/9: Kennel Presentation: On the backside of her kennel when I approached, came running to the front with soft eyes, loose body, mid to low tail wags. Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out, pulled mildly on leash. Outside pulled moderately, mid to low tail, panting. Sociability: Would not come over when called, came over for treats with low tail wags, soft wider eyes, ears back, panting. Allowed all handling and moved away when I stopped. Takes treats very gently. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Brown Lee, hackles rised, mid to high tail wags, sniffed and moved away on her own. Return to Kennel: Walked back pulling mildly, hopped right into kennel and leash was removed by hand Color Level: Exp Gold Medical notes: 9/24: Marceline was exposed to canine parvovirus and was quarantined. Following the quarantine period, she was examined by a veterinarian and medically cleared for adoption, though there remains a low chance that she could carry and shed the virus. After a month in the shelter, Marceline has shown again and again that she is a sweet, gentle girl with so much to offer. From taking treats softly and showing off her 'sit,' to playing fetch, enjoying her toys, walking nicely with volunteers, and seeking out affection, she has given her handlers plenty of reasons to root for her.
